This game is now only worth about 2000 yen in Japan. It was a massive hit due to the name, but once people started playing it, they found it to be too linear. Cities has been completely removed from the game. There's no way to avoid random battle (which can be frustrating). All purchasing/upgrading are done through the save points. The game is mainly just a series of connected corridor fights with cutscene in between. 2nd hand price for the game is around 1500-2500 Yen and most stores refuse to buy the game as trade in. New game now cost around 3500 Yen. This game has hit the record for the fastest price plunge of the series and the lowest price. I think it also broke the record for largest numbers sold initially too. If international release follow the same trend, we could very well see this game in the bargain bin very quickly. So if you are short on cash, perhaps hold off buying for a little while. You'll probably see a large number of them hitting the 2nd hand section quickly.

there a some exceptions FFVIII and FFX both took me 100hours to complete. Due to how linear FF13 is, it will probably take 50-60 hours.

most games are only worth 2000y here. especially when its popular. some stupid kotaku story is perpetuating this, which is utterly stupid, as all games are around that price second hand.
2000 is the absolute cheapest ive seen btw, store probably had quite a few copies. most are 3500 - 4500.

Most stores were advertising ~8800 yen for FF13 when I was there just before it's release. Bloody expensive compared to what they'd usually pay.
Still seems like a fair price drop in only a couple months. If only second hand games were that cheap in Aus I'd never buy a game at launch. |

Square would really need to make some giant blunders to ruin an FF - they have been doing it long enough now you would think that they would be able to turn out a good FF RPG. I sincerly hope your comments don't hold true to the actual game, either way I will be buying it and if it fails well then it fails but that is yet to be seen as many reviews also say very positive things about it. I guess its a extreme case of each to their own, possibly a love it or hate it compared to previous games.

Decided to bite teh bullet and order the PS3 collector's edition
![]() Is there any confirmation if both versions have same graphics and content? If so I'd be tempted to swap it over for a Xbox 360, since i much prefer the 360 and controller.

FF isn't the sort of game where controller difference would matter at least not to me. I'll be grabbing it for whatever platform I can find it cheapest. Won't grab it at launch anyway, not in any rush to play it. If they're the same price I'll probably go the 360 version so I don't have to listen to my loudstation in the cut scenes. Unless of course it does turn out they've totally screwed the pooch on the port.

In regards to preferance of a 360 controller for a game like this it makes no difference. I have friends who literally hate the ps3 controller and say it hurts their hands bla bla but I have never had any problem with either the ps3 or 360 controller in any games though the more formed fit of the 360 can get them a bit sweaty if its intense playing.
I found this comparison here. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...Comparison.jpg To me it looks pretty accurate and matches all the ACTUAL 360 shots I have seen. I read through a number of articles comparing them most of which using the SAME pictures and simply had the buttons on screen changed. There is no way they would look identical even if both systems are capable of displaying it to the same level there would be tiny differences but all the pictures were pixel identical besides the buttons. There are also a few articles saying that FFXIII will really push the ps3 and if that is true then the PS3 version should be graphically better in at least some way and it appears so as a few of the comparison pics have shown. Its simple maths the ps3 has more actual processing power than the 360 so at the very least they can run it at 1080 rather than 720 and ad more aa and other filtering to clean up the picture. If you have a ps3 get it on ps3 if you have a 360 get it on 360. At the end of the day the difference in graphics is not going to make or break the game in any way. If its a good enjoyable game then you will have fun playing it on either system. Its about content and gameplay not about how it looks - I still play snes games from time to time and enjoy them more than literally almost all modern games. Unrelated to the above I really hope that whatever version we get in Aus has Jap audio and english subs as an option because the english voice acting is terrible. Most of the voices don't suite the characters at all, compared to the same characters in english and japanese and the japanese voice overs really suite the characters. |
