Need a netbook for business mainly, surfing the net additionally.
My main priorities are portability (weight and size), quiteness and battery life.
Don't mind pay the price for quality as long as above needs met.

Is HE1000 too heavy to carry around compared to NC10?
Is N110 available anywhere? worth the waiting?
How about other brands?

Thanks all!

I'm moving to the UK in under 2 months and am going to get a netbook. What I'm considering is whether to get one with built in 3G or not.

My questions are:
  • Will the 3G in a netbook bought in Aus work properly in the UK (and travelling around Europe)?
  • Does anyone have any strong opinions as to whether I should get internal 3G, or just get a dongle when I'm over there?

I'm looking at probably either the Asus eeepc 1000HA or the MSI Wind U120 (for 3G), or the 1000HE or U100 without.

isnt the only one model sold in AU that has 3g anyway?

either way, all you need to check is that it supports 2100mhz UMTS, and you're laughing.

Hey guys,

I am need of something of around $550 to last me through for this whole year then get something better later.

I just need it for general home use like word documents, MS project etc.. and when at home will plug it to speakers for music.

I had in mind the BENQ Joybook Lite. But any other opinions?

MSI U90 Wind
ASUS EeePC 904HA
Lenovo S10

All of the above are in the $550 price range. Personally, I'd look at the S10 since it's a 10" screen. The 904HA and U90 are both 8.9" screens.

Thanks dude,

I think i like the S10, anyone have any other opinions on it?

Is it worth the extra $50 for the 6 cell battery?

Default WANTED: ASUS N50VN Notebook stockist or suggestion on equivant notebook

I need a new laptop fast. I've been doing research in the last month in the hope that I would find something that had a screen size no larger than 15.4" and enough power to play games on and still use for day to day study/business. I found out about the ASUS N50VN somewhere down the track but I am now having a difficult time tracking one down with the right system specs.

There seems to be a varying number of N50VN releases each with different CPUs, Hard Drives, installed versions of Vista, and some with a blu-ray multi drive and some without.

Im searching in the Melbourne area, as well as in central Victoria, I'm currently after one of the models with a Core2Duo T9600 @ 2.8GHZ, 500gig HDD, blue-ray/DVD-multi drive. My local Harvey Norman just ran out of these and the closest equivalent I have found is a down-scaled model with a T9400 and no blu-ray.

I've got a $2500-$3000 budget (Kevin Rudd has just stimulated my package). If anyone knows anywhere I can find the higher end version of the laptop in stock in the areas in searching then please leave a message.

P.S. Failing buying any sort of N50VN can anyone reccomend another ASUS laptop with similar specs that has a screen size of 15.4" or less in my price range? I'm not really open to suggestions of other manufacturers, although feel free to recommend something else.

B.T.W. I've decided to post this thread in more than one section of the forum because this specific section seems to be getting more traffic than 'Swap and Shop'.

Considering that my Asus G1S died recently I need to get a replacement net/notebook.
My budget is <1K and don't mind any brand besides Acer really. Would prefer something with a sub 13" screen.
I've looked at the following so far:
Asus N10Jc
EEEPc 1000HA/E
Samsung NC10
Dell Inspiron Mini 12
MSI Wind (model?)

The old laptop used to do some light CAD (solidworks 08) at Uni. At home I ran it on my desktop. So the new net/notebook has to have similar capabilities. Considering that the N10 has the 9300, as weak as it is, I'm fairly inclined towards that. Any other suggestions?

Hey guys, I am looking for something with a sub 15" screen and must have an SSD as the primary drive.

I have checked out:

Wind U115 Hybrid - great because it has both SSD and HDD, but not crazy about the Atom Z530 CPU and Intel Poulsbo US15W chipset.

Also checked out some Eeepc's 1000, 901, S101

I am still unsure about the Eeepc as a friend of mine was telling me about a dipping keyboard problem... is this still a problem (I haven't done any research myself)?

Just checked out the HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition... looks good.
Does anyone know if this comes with an SSD and HDD or just one or the other?

Is there any other models I should be looking at?

I don't think you can go wrong with the Samsung NC10, or the Asus 1000HE.

But Samsung's NC10's successor, the NC20 is a nice netbook: http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/21/s...r-to-the-nc10/ That i think would be suited a bit better considering the bigger screen

How much space are you actually looking for? as most netbooks that only come with SSD's are quite limited in space.

Without taking much time to search around you can get a nice Dell Studio 15 Laptop with a new Intel 4500MHD graphics solution (better), 2GB of ram, a faster processor and wireless N for $999 Inc. Delivery. Similar weight to the Sony, but you really need 2GB of ram for Vista to get a good experience IMO.

While it is a Sony, its a basic model, which i personally don't like the design of..but that part is up to you

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/prod...hs1&l=en&s=dhs

PS. On Sony's site they state its no longer for sale? You might be able to find one for a good price if a store is doing any clearance sales.

Have a look at this thread: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=769856 a couple of good options under 1 grand.
