Hey guys,

Looking for something and budget tops out at $1000. It will be used for small buissness primarily emails etc, but will have a lot of data to be stored. This to me seems like a fantastic deal http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/portal...lt=2&mode=list Can you guys give me your opinion?

Cheers in advance

While you may be storing a lot of data on it, i hope you have some kind of backup.

As for the latop itself, its just a standard dell laptop really. As for the hard drive, as will most laptops you can upgrade it in a matter of minutes And you can pickup a nice 500gb drive for ~$145 if you need to space.

Seems to be exactly the same price on the dell website...
The dual core isn't a C2D... doesn't really seem all that flash to me, kind of just a basic laptop. For your needs it'll be perfect, however i think you could do better. I'm not up to date with all the prices however...

Honestly the first one uses a nvidia chpiset and a very low end graphics. And the second one uses a SiS chipset (haven't seen a laptop use one for a while) with a better video card.

Otherwise they look quite similar and as for battery life i'd expect it to be similar.

For the price i'd consider a Dell Studio 15 for $1299 http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/prod...hs1&l=en&s=dhs or the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 series.

hey guys,

Just before i go out and buy the Lenovo S10, are there any other netbooks that would beat it in that price range? Its $599 with a 6 cell battery for the S10.

Personally i see nothing wrong with that notebook considering the price with a 6-cell battery.

It won't be used for storing anything large, so space is not really an issue.

Mainly for updating web sites and logging data off my cars ECU.

On the rare occasion, I may hook it up to network and grab something off a friend... 64GB is more than adequate.

It must have the Samsung/OCZ SATA II SSD.

Some people have had issues with HDDs but only a couple from what I gathered.

In that price range though I'd be looking at the ASUS EeePC 1000HA - http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/pro...oducts_id=2069

$625.00 but comes with 2GB RAM. Battery life I believe is better too.

Default Mini Laptop - Which one?

Hello,

I am after a Mini Laptop, something 10" - 12". Just wondering which is the pick of the bunch at the moment in terms value for money and features.

Budget around $700.

Possibly the top 5 popular models at the moment and why.

Are there any differences between Atom 1.6ghz processors? and are they capable of playing DVD's, playing back digital photos, most common tasks etc?

I dont mind the Asus 1000HA or the HP with the 160GB hdd.

Thanks for your feedback!

Samsung NC10 is supposed to be the best [have to order from overseas}. You have to buy an external drive for DVDs but they are quite capable of playing them. I've seen the NC10 in shops and the NC20 which is the 12" screen, the bigger screen makes a huge difference with bigger keyboard if you dont need it to be exeptionally small.

Netbooks don't use normal SSD's they use mini-PCI based designs because of the size and space avaliable internally.

You can buy a laptop and put an 2.5" SSD of your choice in it, but netbooks aren't like that.

Yes all atom processors are capable of doing the most common tasks, while less common tasks can take longer they still get done.

Probably is with playing dvd's they don't come with optical drives, but can be purchased separately. If you mean a dvd rip of some sorts, then it shouldn't be any issues in terms of playback, issues arise when playing HD heavy content.

Both are good netbooks and in your price range, while i'd say pickup the latest 1000HE its over your price range, but may come down in price over a period of time.

hey guys

what are some laptops to look at in the $800-$1200 range?

only going to be using it for net, ms office etc. not gaming (prefer my ps3 and wii) or anything graphic intensive.

so i guess i'd prefer bigger hdd over more ram.

would 1gb ram be enough, or would 2gb be that much better considering my intended use?

i'd prefer a full size screen, but have an external monitor if needed

thanks

Most laptops these days will come with Windows Vista, which i wouldn't recommend using with 1GB of ram. Most laptops these days will come with at least 2GB.
