Sounds like a faulty ATI Hollywood chip, common error caused by poor cooling over time. Most people keep the Wii in a cabinet with poor air flow and leave it on standby, so the heat can damage the hardware. It's not known if it this issue just affects a certain batch or all Wiis.
Call Nintendo, a few people got it replaced eveb out of warranty as it's a design flaw or bad batch. I know I am going to invest in some cooling for my Wii as it is in a cabinet with poor cooling, plus a few other warm devices like external HDD, foxtel unit, media centre unit etc.
