Hey guys, just looking for a laptop for my friend, and for my mum.
wondering what the best brand you guys would recommend would be? Personally i like Asus, but im not much into the portable computing and would like some other opinions. Also if you could suggest possible models it would be great My friend wants, under 1500, +2ghz processor, +2gb ram, 160GB+ HDD, is currently looking at the toshiba m300 (i think) Mum wants something fast, not necisarily super mobile, but able to be a speedy computer. around 2g worth cheers Alex

thats like asking what is the best brand of shoes...
I would say Dell because of their warranty and support. Buy from any others and your pretty much on your own if something goes wrong. |

Someone will undoubtedly say it, so it might as well be me.
Apple. *sits back and waits for the flamewar to begin* Note: I am well aware that Macbooks don't suit everyone's needs, nor budget. I am also well aware that there's no such thing as one "best" laptop brand. Edit: For what it's worth, my current laptop is a MacBook Air, my previous one was an Acer tablet, and before that, a Toshiba. My Dad used Toshibas for years, and all the laptops at work are Asus machines.

i personally use an asus, with no issues
have recommended a dell for friends and family (4 x studio's in the last few months) and all are happy with it (and if they have problems, then they call dell, not me)

I really like asus notebooks, esp the better specced ones. 2 year warranty from the factory is nothing to be sneezed at. Most of the laptops I see sent for repair are acers, (usually the entry level ones) but this could have as much to do with the users than the machines, mine has been fine.

for their price, asus are one of the best around.
back in the day, ibm were exceptionally well-built; im not too well up on how lenovo followed thru with that, but i hope they did a good job. toshi have always been a favourite of mine for the market segment you are looking at (and above), and as others have said, dell have excellent after sales service. and apple are a very good machine too, though, as also stated already, wont suit everybody's needs. wouldnt go near acer

You can't go wrong with a Dell, at least in my experience of purchasing three laptops for myself and family members. They are great machines to use, they are priced well, customisable, ordering is easy and support is second to none.
