Well Chullora is not far away

Really appreciate you going to the trouble of finding the deals though.

God damn. Just saw your edit. Buy the 60 anyway, the backwards compatibility is worth it!!

Sydney Metro may be out of stock, but I just rang Bathurst and they have confirmed they have NINE 40GB PS3's in stock (she even went to the stand to count them for me).

I've reserved two for myself, so that leaves 7 for the rest of you peeps.

I'm off!

Incorrect. 40Gb nor 80Gb consoles DO NOT have any PS2 backwards compatibility whatsoever. Only the 60Gb consoles have PS2 BC.

This is in relation to 'PAL' produced consoles (not that there is any region coding)

So there is no point in buying it then?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3 SSJX is correct. I'm just going to resell it on ebay anyway, but I thought i'd be in for a total steal if it was BC.

A PS3's a PS3 - who cares? I don't really play my older games much anyway.

If you can get to Bathurst today, then it's no problem. Public Transport is too slow, so it's eactually easier to rent a car for $150 and drive there. Since I'm buying two, I can split the cost of the car rental with my mate and it still ends up being a lot cheaper at $475 each.

It sucks, but we won't see any PS3 below $500 retail for at least another year I reckon.

I'm halfway to Bathurst atm, and I just rang my brother who's a Sony rep. He says that the 40GB PS3's are identical to the $700 80GB PS3's except for two items - the hard-drive size and the SixAxis is replaced with the Dualshock3 controller. 2.5" HDD's are cheap and the Dualshock3 controller is a whole $80 from most places apparently, so he's gobsmacked that Big W are doing this deal, so I'm getting one for him as a second unit for his bedroom (he already has an original $1,000 unit in his lounge) because his staff discount won't get anywhere close to that!

So, I now have a grand total of seven PS3's to buy - Big W have reserved them for me already and they said they'll hold onto the last two for me as well if I find a couple more buyers.

Back on the road...

I believe the 80gbs have a die shrink don't they? Don't think it lowered the wattage by much anyway when they shrank it.

For Sydney-siders, the following stores DO NOT have any 40GB PS3 stock (Product Code 6575861) left:

North Ryde (Macquarie Centre)
Brookvale
Winston Hills
Campsie
Auburn
Blacktown
Fairfield
Pagewood
Richmond
Penrith

EDIT: The following stores HAD stock left but now do not:

Bankstown
Chullora
Plumpton

EDIT2: Ringing around the last few stores not on my list above, I have confirmed that all SYDNEY METRO stores are out of stock of the 40GB PS3, though one did have a 60GB PS3 available, but was too closely priced to the 80GB unit. BUGGER!!

Called like 5 stores in brisbane none have stock.

I'm in Bathurst right now and Im taking away eight of these PS3's, however Big W have apologised to me - they miscounted - they have ELEVEN units all up here (minus the eight I'm taking). If there is anyone in Metro Sydney who wants one, I'm prepared to buy it now and bring it down - you'll need to collect from me. I will not ship it anywhere, including interstate.

EDIT: Deals done - I ended up buying all eleven of them.

Nah, I hate people that do that - I have buyers for all eleven, though two are being a bit iffy at the moment because they won't commit. Worse case is that I EBay the last two if they pull out.

I now have a boot-load of PS3's (two didn't fit, so they're in the back) and am heading home with a big grin on my face.

SixAxis instead of Dualshock 3, 40GB HDD (easily upgradable yourself) and will run warmer than the current PS3's on sale due to the slightly larger manufacturing process.

PM me if you're still interested because if these other two guys don't commit by tomorrow, I'm putting them up for someone else to take. Price is cost plus split of car rental and petrol which will add probably no more than $30-$40 to the price.

EDIT: Just got home after refueling and quickly did the math. Final price - cheaper than I expected - $420.

I guess there is no chance of getting these 40gb PS3's tomorrow? One of my mates is keen on one (if there are any in melb). Does anyone know if the product code would still work?

Anyway will give it a try
