Exclamation Ultima Online

I have played Ultima Online for around 9 years now, both on official OSI shards and on free private run shards. Most people that would still have interest in the game are more than likely playing or looking for free shards to play on, although most are either based internationally and have 200+ ping to the server, or are just so poorly made and run.

Within the next couple months I will be starting and running an Ultima Online server, based in Australia.

Inspired by former australian UO server, OcenainaX, the server will be pre-pub16 based. The current staff working on the project with myself all have extensive UO gameplay knowledge, aswell as computer programming skills.

It's a project that has been on our minds for almost a year now and from a bit of research there is about 30-35 people who are definately keen to help this project work.

The server, when hosted, will be hosted professionally and will not lack in hardware or maintenance needs.

I'm just curious as to who would be interested in seeing a project such as this go ahead and who would be interested in playing or helping as staff.

Thanks,
-Primeaux

So long as its closer to uo and less "we give you everything, macro all you want, everyone must pvp" shards, sign me up.

Definately interested as zulu aus has just reopened and it is utterly crap.

Prefer play but can help with web/hosting/scripting if needed.

Some of the server rules included will be;

-no more than two accounts logged in per IP- with exceptions ie; family's/friends that live together and both play.etc
-no afk resource gathering
-unattended macroing is allowed- in moderation
-moderate skill gains
-balanced economy

As for pvp and pvm, the style of gameplay will be determined by the player and only the player. Both pvp and pvm events will be introduced in order to satisfy players needs.

The server will be trying to recreate the original pre-pub 16 UO experience as it was. There will be no biased tweaks or changes to gameplay and hopefully from this thread I can futher determine what everyone would like to see in a UO server.

As for Zulu hotel, I can say with full confidence that the server will NOT be like Zulu in any way shape or form.

I don't know but.

The game is very old and most of the time people seem to just join, play for a week to get it out of their system and then leave.

If the server was coded well, was very fun and kept players and was extremely interesting then maybe.

Running around with 5-20 people on a server where there is not really much point in doing anything is no fun at all.

I completely agree. I'm hoping to establish an active playerbase which can result in an active server, more motivation and reason to write good scripts and more interest in the gameplay.

Yes the game is over 10 years old, but the reason people still play is because its different. It's a game that people can still highly enjoy because most of Ultima's aspects have been lost, if not left out of most modern day MMO's.

This server will aim to be active, keep players interested and maintain a high playerbase. To achieve this we will be looking to have many global event's which give players from both pvp and pvm play-styles a reason to participate.

Excellent, well I guess the only way to see how it is is to try it out.

I think this is really important, if you have a good staff base (heck i'll help out if you need me) and keep the community updated, you will get more and more people coming to play.

One thing I don't like about ZHA right now is there are only 3 staff members that I know of, and although there was a monster bash event on the weekend, thats about it. Very occasional updates by the staff means the shard feels sorta dead...

Make sure everyone uses the forums, have an IRC channel and you'll be laughing. Of course this will take up your time, so really you shouldn't be asking us how interested WE are, you should be asking yourself how much time are you willing to invest in this project?

Personally I am very committed to the creation and maintenance of this server on many, if not all levels. I am dedicated to putting in time, effort and money into this server to see that it opens and runs efficiently.

All hardware and software is under control, this includes scripting. The only reasons that are delaying the open of this server (for good reasons) is the fact that I do not want to start a half done server that needs ongoing updates and attention. From the word go i am to have this server at 100%, from there on the bar will simply be raised.

Before the server opens I would like to have;

-atleast 5 dedicated trained staff members, all of whom will be testing the servers mechanics for bugs/flaws.

-a direct rule set which will be followed and enforced strictly.

-a working forum in which players and staff members alike can communicate with eachother. this also gives the benificial aspects of players being able to voice their opinions.

On further note, stricly no gameplay/rule/server changes will be made without open discussion between all staff and players. I believe this is essential to the success of the server.

And last but not least, the impossible task of choosing a name for the server which isn't lame, boring.etc. Personally I think that is the hardest part

Anyway if you start this server up myself and my 2 bros will gladly play especially if your server doesn't have the GM harrasment and forum whingeing problems that OcenainaX had.

Primeaux, I am from a guild called the Elite which was established in 2000 and we were the premier PvP guild on the UO Oceania server.

We would definitely be interested in a server such as this. Ideally we all prefer the Pre: UO:R ruleset but are also open minded in trying out different types of rulesets etc.

There would be at minimum at least 5 of us who would be more than willing to play on your server on an active basis. I am posting on behalf of these 5 people (therefore add 4 to your poll for yes!).

Can you please describe what your ruleset would be like? I.e. is it similiar to Pre UO:R, i.e. pre-casting, insta-hit etc?

Pre-casting yes, but insta-hit is debateable. From this forum thread alone I have gathered that there would definately be some strong interest in seeing this project take place, which is quite motivating. For now the only answer to a ruleset I can give is that it will be very similar to UO:R, with debateable changes.

Do you remember Whiplsah, Deadpool, Romp, Mushroom and Destiny from Oceania? They are all real life friends of mine and also have a very strong interest in seeing that this server delivers.

Which Romp are you referring to? You do know the original Romp is the GM of the Elite right? I've known him for 5+ years and have been gaming with him since UO.

I remember Mushroom but the other names escape me.

The Elite has over 50 active members engaged in all types of MMO's including Warhammer, WoW, Eve & UO.

We would definitely be interested in a server like this and ideally would prefer both pre-casting and insta-hit. Having said that, pre-casting w/o insta-hit would still be fine by us, but both is a preference.
