Default South Bank on Sunset

I got bored this afternoon and decided to go for a walk down to South Bank and break in my new lens (Sigma 10-20mm), and luckily mother nature blessed us with another amazing Queensland sunset. It was my first time shooting with such a wide lens so it took a bit of getting used to. These are all pretty cliche Brisbane photos, but I don't really have anything else to shoot right now . Note 3, 4 and 5 were taken with my 50mm 1.8. C&C please!

I like #7 and #9 because the colour and wow factor are there . I also like the silhouette in #1 - pity there was not a little more colour in the clouds. Southbank sure is a nice place to go for a run with the camera once in a while.

Thanks guys =) I think the wheel shot is my favourite of the set. Anyone have any criticism? I'm always looking to improve.

First tip, resize your pics to 800 on the long side. You'll almost always get more/better feedback when the images can be viewed in there entirety.

Are you using a tripod? If so, your technique might need some work.

With the 50, I think you might be thinking of it as a telephoto, your shots seem to be 'long' and the one of the lamps you could do without.

The nice thing about 50's is the flat/precise/sharp look to them, this is largely due to the perspective compression you get when using one. Think of the 50 not as a short telephoto but more a 'flat' lens and you might start to really get into it. The B+W one you've got there is heading in the right direction, but its crooked and the right side feels bad. A 50 is a great lens to show interesting geometry.

Keep an eye on your foregrounds, you've got a few there that don't add anything to your images.

I like the colours in these, but they do look like they've been underexposed and pushed up or something. Get your histograms right and shoot RAW for best results.

Thanks mate. Funny thing is I actually over-exposed most of them and pushed them back down. I also don't have a tripod, the long exposure ones were just rested on brick pillars and such. Also, sorry about the size. My monitor is in 1680x1050, so it's nowhere near the edge, I didn't even think about that.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep your comments in mind.

Oops, sorry. Was in the process of uploading smaller versions at ^catalyst's request, and I straightened #10 as much as I could. Should all be working now.

5,7 and 9 are my picks. Nice work

8 & 10 could probably do with a straighten.

I know I'll probably get keelhauled for saying this but, have you looked into HDR? Might have been able to get a bit more detail in the darkened areas of some of your shots.

I personally love #6 and #8... to me #7 looks distorted... looks like the wheel is on an angle?

That's because it was shot on a wide angle lens at 10mm. I like the effect though, it gives it depth.
