The phone itself is OK, the only reason to get one at the moment is because it runs Android. If you are getting it just because of Android then fine, but if you are looking for a new phone regardless of OS then I would look elsewhere.

I got a G1 Dev phone just before Christmas and so far no complaints (though I've never really had a highish end phone before, my last two phones were a M600i and a SK65)
I've only had one or two app crashes (3rd party programs) and the OS has been perfect. Battery life is a little iffy, but turning off GPS and Wifi when you're not using them really helps. The default browser is fairly fast (not as fast as my N800, but close), even with lots of images. There is fairly good integration with Google Calendar, Gmail, and GTalk (with syncing on contacts) too. The marketplace is pretty simple and needs some work, but everything works. It's very simple to download/install/remove apps and apps themselves seem to be quite powerful, I have a 3rd party SMS app running now (with on screen keyboard) rather than the default one. My favorite app ATM is a SSH client, with the G1s decent keyboard it's very usable. One thing that does annoy me is the lack of a on screen keyboard (I'm actually missing the weird M600i keys a little too) but that's coming in the next Andriod update (Cupcake) I've barely used the camera, but the quality seems pretty poor (but I don't really have anything to compare with)

a few of my mates work at google and have given it to me for a play, not very happy with it personally, i much prefer my E71.
OS wise they're ok, hardware wise not so much

Yea it would definitely be for Android. We'll see, maybe I'll wait a month or so and see if it looks like coming out here or if there are any new phones out by then.

Exactly, basically nobody would go for this phone, if it were not for Android.

The phone is very ordinary but Android itself has a lot of potential.
