stronger mixed drinks 2-4 nips/glass during the night if possible, followed by a glass of water. uber skull of water before you go to sleep but watch out it can cause vomiting.

Eat well (lots) the next day again paying attention to fluids and sleeping early. Good preparation can make a full 8-9 hour day at work after 15-20 standard drinks doable. Even with a 7am start after getting home at 3am.

Also pay particular attention to catching up those lost hours of sleep. Its not uncommon for me to take a full 13 hours the day after, a few extra the next night and then go back to normality. If you seriously oversleep you will notice you only need 6 hours the following day too. So oversleeping in preparation for a big night can be a good thing.

[EDIT]

My biggest problem with drinking (when around other people) is the dumb things I say and do. I make some rather bad decisions and yeah, I think sometimes a little less drink goes a long way towards having a good night where you don't get home and go, if I hadn't had way too much to drink that pretty girl (and generally sober) might have continued talking to me etc etc. Or I might have thought of a nicer way of asking her for her number which would have worked.

Also there is the 'dumbness' problem where you feel stupid for the following days. At the moment I feel like a dumb hick, but I'm actually quite well educated. I'm still having thinking difficulties and I had my last drink at 11:30 on Saturday night.

People should be able to pick up on some common themes here, especially with the use of water.

Water + salt + suger.

You have it down to an artform. I usually just drink water before I go to bed, wake up and have breakfast, add a coffee and i'm good to go for the rest of the day.

If I've got a real killer hangover greasy food really just makes me feel worse. My stomach goes from feeling sick to feeling like I need to puke and shit but can't.

For me -

Get home, drink a lot of water and if I can stomach it, have a quick feed.
Take 3 nice big glasses of water to my room and sleep. I wake up a fair bit during the night and drink about half a glass at a time.
Toast/fruit/real yoghurt for breaky. Sometimes I'll slip in bacon and eggs as well.
Plunger coffee with just a dash of milk.
A couple Panadeine or whatever is around for the headache. A multi-vitamin and a Zinc supplement.
Drink plenty of water through the day, stick to easy to stomach/nutritious food.
Catch up on lost sleep the following night.

Works really well for me because I get more of the stomach symptoms of the hangover than I think most people do. If it was just the groggy head feeling I guess I could smash down some Hungry Jacks for a post mid-day breaky like I used to.

Drink heaps of water is the key before you go to sleep if your pissed. If I wake up with a hangover I find a large Macca's coke helps really well. Full of sugar and water, the two things your body needs to help recover.

Smash as much water as I can remember before bed, along with a Nexium. Then a drink bottle beside the bed. Multivitamin, Panadol and Maxolon when I first wake up, along with a Powerade. Greasy food from 11am onwards. Mind you, if you've got all day to recover, and have the tools to do it properly, the body will take some sort of punishment.

I always drink 1/2-1L of choc milk before hitting bed if I've been out on the gas. Combined with a kebab, this limits the headache damage the next morning. In the morning I'll have either a steak/cheese subway, prawns from the fishmarket or Oporto to get me through the morning. I haven't found a way to limit the damage to my Royal Doulton from the AGB however.
