edit: Crap, I've got to figure out how to reload my backup. The first replacement I got was just a simple restore, this one wanted me to "create new" then restore from there...

edit: Got it.
I had to:
1. create new iphone profile
2. restore to defaults
3. restore from desired backup

My previous replacement only required the following:
1. restore from desired backup

When we try to submit it. It claims the MAC Address is invalid!!!!

Sounds like you might need to take it to a Genius; the WiFi part of the comms chip may have died

Apple to preview iPhone OS 3.0 March 17th

Looks like there will be a major update to the iPhone. This is in the form of Software version 3.0.

I can remember the last update from 1.0 to 2.0 and as such I think I will be staying away from the update like the plague for the first few weeks.

Once the fervor dies down and the Apple activation servers are back online we can look forward to some pretty cool stuff including an new SDK to throw a monkey wrench into all of the jailbreakers and third party app devs out there.

Apple plans an advance preview on March 17th for this new iPhone OS.

iPhone 3.0 preview points to new phone by June, say analysts

The timing of today's announcement from Apple Inc. that it will preview iPhone 3.0 next week is a sure sign that the company is on track to launch an updated phone this summer, analysts said.

Last year, Apple unveiled iPhone 2.0, and its supporting software developers kit, or SDK, in early March 2008. It then followed that with a coming-out party for the new iPhone 3G in June and sales in July.

Analysts unanimously agreed that the timing of next week's preview of iPhone 3.0 software and SDK points to a similar timetable for a refresh of Apple's hardware.

"I would expect the same timeline," said Jeff Kagan, an independent wireless and telecommunications analyst in Atlanta.

"Certainly makes sense," agreed Van Baker, an analyst at Gartner Inc. "You want the SDK out there to give developers time to come up with something."

Another benefit, added Baker, is the possibility that CEO Steve Jobs, who is on medical leave through the end of June, would make an appearance to launch a new iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) -- the same venue he used last year to strut the iPhone 3G.

Its not the MAC Address. Feck this annoying!
I got a mac address changer so its not it.
Before i take it to genius i gotta try another wireless network.
Reason for that is because both the test one at work and mine are netgear routers....maybe its an incompatibility.

ok few quick questions as this thread is quite large...
Thinking of getting one of these bad boys as my 2 year contract with 3 ends in a few months, basically.

1. Is there a 'newer' model coming out all, from what i read bout the first one is u cant send mms and the camera is a bit shite etc Should i wait?

2. Any known major issues eg battery life etc.

3. Best value network to join, currently im with 3 and pay around $80 for the n95 on the $49 cap something similar to that, i hear optus have a $80 a month deal with $500 worth of calls or something.

My wifi chip seems to be dying....constantly loses connection, and often doesn't connect at all even when standing right near the router. Always used to work fine....

2. You will get probably 6/7 hours of continuous music and Internet use. Not great but Internet is a joy to use compared to nokias.

3. Virgin are pretty good value. Remember virgin are owned by optus so you're on the same network. $74/mo for 16gb iPhone - $520 calls/txt/mms (don't hold out for apple to include mms... Jailbreak and swirlymms is great!) - 1gb monthly data (generous, but comes in handy if you run the Internet off your laptop through phone)

I think you'll have pretty good timing in order to get the new phone

From the sounds of it, yes, new model coming out shortly.

General battery life that comes with a touchscreen mobile.

Personally, i would see how much the phones are to buy outright and then consider this plan from 3.

$69 Cap would be what you are looking for call wise. Also has 2GB data thrown in and a $300 credit for signing up online.

Virgin Sucks balls, you can't upgrade to a higher plan that gives you more talk time. Paying my contract out with them as they seem to have the worst customer service & no flexibility in iPhone plans.

Honestly i think it will come with a faster processor like the latest iPod Touch has, and an increase in battery life. There is also a chance they are going with a matte screen and a change in the back cover. Otherwise i don't see much that can change.

I'm hoping they'll finally improve the bluetooth stack to do more than just headsets, and bring some of the critically missing functionality in many people's opnion - MMS etc - to the 3.0 software.

Yep, bluetooth was one of the issues that annoyed me straight out of the box..and something i didn't realise until i tried to copy from photos from my iphone to my notebook Which is a bit of a pain when you have to physically connect the iphone to a computer just ot get the photo's.

I hope they can also fix the reception issues, and not just a firmware update that makes it seem to have better reception.

All this talk of MMS and bluetooth data transfer for the 3.0 update... Why would apple now all of a sudden go "Hey lets include MMS!" They could have from the start so I dunno why it would take until now.

Still, 3.0 is a significant jump software wise, i still hold hope
