The biggest problem with HAWX is the whole isometric "third person" view they lump on you when you want to get into a dogfight. Give me the option to drop into the cockpit at least, rather than being forced to watch everything from a distance.

Sticking with AC6 here.
Most people online DO stay in the cockpit view rather than using the third person. Probably 90% of me getting killed are by people using assistance on (it tells you who/weapon/mode when you get killed). I much prefer the assistance off for dogfights though.

As for AC6 I only played the demo and didn't really thrill me. Seemed a bit slow compared to HAWX and I like the fast paced FPS like action of HAWX. That said I still want to find a cheap copy of AC6. For $69 HAWX is one of the best $/Fun Units games I've found in a long time.

For PC I'm not really sure of the complaints, stuff to do with poor porting regarding mouse accelleration and pretty much no support for a flight stick as it is really really designed for thumb sticks on a controller. I suspect if you want it for PC you'll probably want to play with a gamepad, perhaps even an X360 controller.

Default HAWX

I just got HAWX as well and was absolutely stoked with it (although confused as to what the assistance off was doing) until I tried multiplayer and used it.
I was sooooo annoyed yesterday afternoon that I couldn't stay in the cockpit the whole time, not even through lack of control because I'll just learn that from the distance view. But what the hell not even the option to stay in the cockpit!

Also, I use inverted look in all games, so I have the 360 set as that. For some reason HAWX interpreted this as to reverse my flight controls. Had to repair that, then when I tried to invert the LOOK (right stick) it inverted not only the Y axis but the X axis too. That is the only other gripe I have but will still play the hell out of it and just hope for a fix.

In the demo, eventually you could turn the outside setting off and just stay in the cockpit.

Just been having a bash at the wheelman demo, seems pretty good. Dunno how much of those cutscenes I could handle but the actual game is good mindless fun.

Was good fun getting to smash up SS Commodores too

You don't have to use that distance view. The game focuses quite heavily on the cockpit view with things like the ERS for guiding you behind or above targets. There is only one mission that forces you to use assistance off, and that is the training mission that teaches you to use assistance off.
Surely if you did this mission you would know how to get back into the cockpit? Double tap one of the triggers swaps you between assistance on/off. Then one of the sticks changes your view between hud/cockpit/third person when in assistance on. It's all explained in the game.

I think the multiplayer host can force view modes on you, as I noticed that in most games you can't go into third person or hud view with assistance on, though I pretty much only use assistance off unless my missiles have been disabled.

The problem I have with the in-cockpit mode in HAWX is that you can't stay in the cockpit in assistance off mode, which means you're limited in the maneuvers you can pull.

If you want to be able to pull off the stalls etc to change direction quickly, you're required to go into assistance off mode which enforces the 3D camera.

Yes, you can stay in-cockpit, but you're at a distinct disadvantage by doing so. At least give me the same control over the aircraft in cockpit, rather than having to compromise.

I can see how that would be handy, the forcing 3rd person seems to be a noob friendly compromise as it is far easier to see what your planes doing from that view so you're less likely to stall it and ruin yourself. No reason though why they can't allow different view modes for anyone who considers them self a more seasoned pilot.

I was just playing the HAWX demo & changed the camera to cockpit.

It takes like less than 30 seconds to get a feel of how the plane moves in the camera angle & then your set.

I thought that I'd be stuck with assist-off (or whatever it is) forever, lol.

I swap between both in cockpit with assist on and outside assist off a lot. Off is great for dogfights, on is great for when your missiles are jammed or for taking out ground targets. Takes a split second to swap between them so you can pretty easily keep swapping around. I prefer the cockpit view rather than the simple hud just because its nice to see all the gadgetry of your jet

This is what I was trying to say the other day, I know how to switch in and out, just want the option of extra control but inside the cockpit.

That said, I have started switching into off mode to do super quick 180's and then back into the cockpit.
It would be too much to hope that they make an update with the option wouldn't it?
