Default Screen resolution on 15.6" laptops

I've been noticing more laptops using 15.6" screens now (eg. Dell have replaced their entire Studio 15 range with 15.6" screens). Whats peoples opinion on this and the current max resolution of 1366X768? 768 vertical pixels seems quite low.

I've ordered a Studio 1555 with one of these new 15.6" screens and the max resolution has me a little worried. Its primary use will be uni work with lots of reading/writing (multiple PDFs, word documents, web pages etc), and secondary use will be the usual movie watching + gaming. I don't really think it will matter too much for games or movies, but it could get annoying for everything else.

Get used to vertical scrolling.... I don't find it particularly annoying @ 1280x800 however it's just the way things are now as laptops head to 16:9 and 16:10 form factor. If you can tick the box for a higher resolution screen do it 1280x800 is fine on a 13" screen but I can see those kinds of resoloutions getting cumbersome on a 15" screen

Yea thats what i'm concerned about. A higher max resolution 15.6" screen is rumoured to be at least a couple of months away, until then the 1366x768 is the only one available.

It's a pain in the arse low resolution screens should not exsist on large monitors, but they do and for the average person they know no better.

I couldn't see myself using a 15" screen with such a low resolution and to be honest I would have gone with the studio 15 if it were the case that I'd have to put up with a low resoloution. Sometimes less is more especially when you're getting larger pixels and less screen real estate.

I guess the HD4570 is nice, hopefully it'll have the grunt to play games at native resoloution as that'll be its selling point

Yea I agree. Think i'll cancel the order and hold off getting a laptop for now, I don't really need it for another couple of months, was only ordering now because of the 20% off deal DELL had. I'm sure there will be another decent deal sometime in the next couple of months so i'll have a look again then and hoepfully they have better max screen resolutions around.
