Default Prices on Asus Eee PC 1000 HEs

What prices are people being quoted on the Asus 1000HE?

I called the same Harvey Norman twice on different days, and was quoted two different prices ($774 and $836). Harvey Norman is not my preferred vendor, but it seems they have this new model in stock now.

I'd also be interested to find out if anyone has gotten an N280 chip. It seems Australia hasn't gotten these yet? I'd prefer to have this more efficient chip for even longer battery life (the main draw point for me).

Cheers.

I'm waiting on the PLE sales folks to get back to me regarding the chipset. I'd prefer the N280 if possible. It is not clear to me that HN has N280s.

I think many of the hits I'm getting off Static Ice are orders en-route. I imagine they will be N280s.

nice looking machines these. I went into harvey normans today and got him to open the black one up for me. The keyboards look awesome. Btw best deal i could get was 780 but i reakon there might be a little more movement. Also probably should have checked they were the new chipset lol, sorry about that.

Cheers,

Hardly Normal is all over the place with prices. I am not sure I can trust any of the information I'm getting from them.

One guy was telling me the N270 was the newer chipset. I lost a bit of confidence there.

Keep me updated with prices. PLE seems like the most knowledgable staff so far.

just called tech at hn, he said that the $899 is retail for 1000he but the system didnt say if it was n270 or n280, he said it would most probably be the N270 chipset.

ASUS 1000HE
CPU = N280
Chipset = i945 series

You may encounter some review sites getting initial "review samples" that used the N270 processor.

Its best to ask sales folks to see if you can turn it on, and check if it has the CPU you want.

My problem is that I live in Canberra. We seem to have to wait a bit longer to get good gear here. Unless anyone can correct me.

I often go to the computer fair if I want to do some hand-on checking of gear.

Therefore, I'm looking at either an online purchase or a drive to Sydney.

Am I the only person who thinks $800+ is a bit too expensive for a netbook?

$800 is too much. The US prices are much better. However, I'm looking into other netbooks now, that may provide similar battery life.

far too much.

netbooks were ment to be cheap small laptop alternatives (particularly ultraportable alternatives)

not saying i wouldnt love a HE, but the only reason would be for battery life, and my 901 gives me plenty enough as it is already. more for the wank factor of it. what else do you get from it? bigger screen (but still the same res), 60mhz faster cpu, same chipset, new chassis.
