Went and bought a DDR2-667 SODIMM today for my eeePC. Put it in and turned it on and it shows as 1Gb still??? I can only see this in Windows though as i can't get into the BIOS (goes to WXP load screen straight away).
Can anyone help? Or should I take it back? EDIT: Pics of the ram sticks. The ADATA one is the module that came with the eeePC and the GSkill one is the one I bought. I wanted ADATA but the place I got it from didnt have it so rather than go away empty handed I got the GSkill. From what I can see the GSkill is a different speed and even has more chips on the module. http://users.on.net/~tilbrook_ak/IMAG0031.jpg http://users.on.net/~tilbrook_ak/IMAG0032.jpg

Have you tried booting with JUST the new stick in there, to verify that the stick and/or the slot on the motherboard works?
You should be able to get into your BIOS by holding down a function key from when you press the power button too. Good luck. |

There is only one slot anyway. I put the stick in there and it boots fine into Windows but only reads as 1Gb.

So what was the fix? The default xandros OS on the 700 series (I know yours is XP and 1000 series) limits you to 1GB for those who stumble upon this thread.
There is a fix for that though http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:install2gigkernel otherwise http://www.ubuntu.com/ and http://array.org/ubuntu/

You need to enter the BIOS, it will then recognise the 2Gb, then exit. This is what I had to do to add 2GB to my 1000h.

you might find that the eeePC can only support 2GB is total
i have seen a few other lappies that only took 2GB be it 2X1gb or 1X2gb (they will still work with more than 2GB but will only show 2Gb) i think its the 945 chipset they use
