Question Edifier S730 or Logitech Z5500??

I picked up a pair of Audioengine A5's not long ago... quality speakers! Definitely overpriced! And boy did miss having a SUBWOOFER!!! Returned the A5's after 2 months having them.

Before the A5’s I had the Logitech Z2300's... but they're stuffed from being pumped up all the way too often. lol

So now im looking at getting these... which should i pick?
(Use: MUSIC only! No gaming or watching movies.)

Edifier S730 (Stereo Speakers)
Power output: RMS 2 x 75W + 180W (THD=10%)
$500 (http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/27691-s730)

or

Logitech Z5500 (Digital)
Total RMS power: 505 watts RMS
Satellites: 317 watts RMS (2 x 62 W front, 2 x 62 rear, 69 W center)
Subwoofer: 188 watts RMS
$400 (http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf)

I know Stereo speakers are better for music but the Z5500 are $100 cheaper. How much of a difference is there between these?

Help me decide what speakers to get next guys...

Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II.

Blows both of them away in terms of sound quality (particularly for music).

or if you can find em, Klipsch ProMedia GMX 2.1's (although they are EOL now).

I have the Klipsch Promedia GMX's, I haven't heard Computer speakers come anywhere near them for Sound Quality.

Harmon Kardon's are supposed to be comparable.

You mentioned you want music quality, but was essentially missing Low's from your Audioengine A5's - these offer a compromise between sound quality and output.

Sure you can go the Edifer's or Logitech Z5500's, but you're sacrificing Sound Quality for Volume. Personally - I don't care terribly much for Volume (unless you're using your computer to punch out sound for house parties... - even then, I have my Yamaha RX-Z7, JBL L Series and Subsonic XS1 Mk2 that I don't dare turn above 1/3rd volume in the same room) the Klipsch 2.1 system I have is far more volume than I want to be sitting at my PC.

Spec's aren't everything (hell the bit that matters, Sensitivity isn't listed) .

If you had your Z2300's before, you'll be mightily impressed with either of these over them. Won't be as great for mid's and high's as the Audioengines though - but will slay both the edifer's and the logitechs in overall sound quality.

Unless you want loud, blunt, muddy and inaccurate bass.

For the money your talking? You might as well go an Amp and full range bookshelves. Check out the Loudspeaker Kit.

I have the Edifier S730, got it when it first came out..

Its lovely, I love it to bits, the subwoofer is quality, not boomingly loud like the Z5500, it doesnt subtract from the satellites at all

Also they aren't Logitechs

Please don't look at Specs for speakers and headphones. They mean utterly fuck all. Cant really emphasize that enough.

Have you bought anything yet Fangartist?

I'm in the same boat as I'm looking for a set of 2.1 Speakers to use on the computer. I don't really have enough room for a 5.1 set up so I have to go with a 2.1.

Main usage would be probably 45% music, 30% games, 25% movies.

I was looking at these:

http://www.microdirect.com.au/store/...category_id=24

http://www.microdirect.com.au/store/...category_id=24

Would either of these be OK for the things I mentioned?

My price range is $200-$500?

btw if you don't want me posting in your thread please tell me and I will start a new thread and delete this.

Thanks for the reply. Where did you get yours from?

Also, have you used them from all the stuff I mentioned and how are they?

Well, with mine I think the break down would be a little something like this:

- TV 25%
- Movies 25%
- CS:Source 20%
- Music 20%
- xbox360 10%

They are by far the best speakers I've ever owned. But I haven't owned that many or heard that many.

:-)

I think they're great speakers.

From memory I got my brother to pick em up for me on a store on Latrobe St in Melbourne for ~$430.

Yeah right, thanks. Are they loud enough for movies? The room I will be using them is not that big so as long as they have enough volume that would be good.

How about volume for music? I mainly listen Metal, Fusion, Jazz. Classical very occasionally.

I haven't owned many speakers either. I'd be upgrading for a very old 2.1 set up that was about $150.

I was thinking about something like Z-2300's , but from what I've read they sound like they would be garbage for the stuff I want them for.

For movies, there is more volume available then I actually need. The room I'm currently in is probably the size of a small bedroom with only 3 walls (sorta like a study). You can make the movie heard clearly from the kitchen or the front door quite easily.

I do listen to some jazz'y stuff (Michael Buble) and pop. The music sounds great. If I have people over and we're out the back of the house, I can crank up the volume and the sound gets there very clearly.

The A5's are not overpriced either - they're incredible value especially at the moment ($499). They may not vibrate the pictures off your walls but not everyone wants that in a set of speakers.
