Hey guys just want to share my PVC racing cockpit with you guys in case any one is interested.
Feels quite solid, it is glued 50mm plumbing pipe.
Tees and elbows are like 88 degrees and not 90 degrees which means you need to compensate when building for squareness.
Have hidden the wiring inside the pipe.
I am hunting down a light weight adjustable seat.
Using a thrustmaster force feedback wheel at the moment and I will replace with a G25 down the track, will need to make adjustments for gear shift then.
I use it in front of a 720p panasonic plasma via HTPC.
Playing GRID, GTR Evo, DIRT, Burnout Paradise etc.
Great fun which has made pc car racing much better again now I have moved on from my gaming rig on the desk setup.
    Thanks

Looks really neat, but the proportions seem a little strange.

Seat really low, wheel really high.

Surely can't be too good for the shoulders and arms.

Alas I'm really impressed by the simple clean design!

I actually just lowered the seat 60mm as it was too high.
Pics dont often show correct proportion, perhaps if I was sitting in it and took a snap.
When I get a new seat I will address this, but it actually fits me very comfortably.
If I stretch my arms straight forward horizontally the underside of my wrists are level with the top of the steering wheel at 10 and 2 oclock.
Feels very natural to me and better than last wwek when I felt UI was sitting too high.
    Thanks.

Just confirmed the sitting position is very similar to a petrol gokart if you've ever sat in one.

Hey mate. You should put up some dimensions so all of us that like it, can make our own. I'm pretty interested in making one for myself and I'm sure my mates would love to make one aswell (being drifters).

    Good work though!

Probably about $60 worth of fittings, pipe cost me nothing, plastic chair cost nothing, some time.
I would assume $150 would cover parts, and another $150 for a racing seat like this:

made one like this but it was too heavy.

Where did you buy all the pipe and fittings?

I had pipe and some fittings.
Additional fittings I just bought from Bunnings.

Looks pretty good, but like mitch01 said, the wheel looks a bit high.

Interesting... looks a little cheapo, but I'm guessing it's actually pretty solid?

I'd love to see someone grab an old Instrument cluster from a car and wire it up to usb. :)
i know it can be done but its a shame i cant find any worklogs on building one anywhere.

    Awesome setup mate,
I really like the creativity. PVC can be very strong, they say Circles are one of the strongest designs :)

I have an EDS1 Racing simulator setup and love my games. Awesome to see another racing games fan!
