Default Vista & Windows 7 game compatability list

Due to allot of older games causing problems on systems post XP we have 2 compatibility lists in the wiki.

Vista game compatibility list

Windows 7 game compatibility list

Latest DirectX

Notes
  • Please add EVERY game you actually install on Vista or Windows 7 to these 2 lists to let others know your experiences.

  • Use Alphabetical order in both lists to make it easier to read edit and go through for when the lists grows to 500+ games.

  • Make sure you edit the notes and colours properly instead of just adding a comment at the end of a current note.
    - Example1: (what not to do):
    "game works fine tested on both systems. - ED: tested this and this doesn't work"
    - Example2: (what to do):
    "It has been reported working but will most likely not work - (reason why it won't work)"

  • Don't automatically fill in the other type x86/x64 if you have not tested it on that type, leave it untouched as the game may not run exactly the same on the other type.

  • When updating the lists if something is a different compatibility listed eg: red and you test on the other platform and its perfect or red when one is green etc please add notes to retest on the platform that the colour is and why it either worked or didn't work for you.

  • Always use the latest patch as patches are designed to fix problems and can increase the games compatibility with the newer OS.

  • Please add your tests to the wiki instead of just posting them in this thread especially if you have a different experience than what the wiki lists.

How to edit the WIKI

The code for the lists are as follows the RED parts (only red in this example) are what you edit the rest is the code for that game line which is still needed per game.

Quote:
<tr>
<td>Game Name</td>
<td style="background: Colour x86"></td>
<td style="background: Colour x64"></td>
<td><center>(Game Explorer) Yes/No</center></td>
<td>Your notes here</td>
</tr>
This is really simple to edit:

To add a new game to the list just copy everything in the section including <tr> to </tr> into the correct area which is determined by the game names alphabet then you edit the parts in red listed above.

Here is a brief explanation of each of the fields.
  • Game name (pretty obvious)
  • x86/x64 represents 32bit or 64bit OS compatibility colour.
  • Does it work with Windows Game Explorer.
    - Game Explorer can be found on top section of the the right side of the start menu as the link 'Games' and you need to run the game once for it to show up.
    - If game explorer isn't listed aka in 'Windows Business' rclick on taskbar, choose properties, click Start Menu tab, click Customize button, scroll down to Games and Display as link
  • Last field is any notes about the game or how to get the game to work.

Colour codes are:

lightgray = Untested
green = Working
yellow = Mostly working
orange = Lots of problems
red = Doesn't run

Here is a full example of a game Call of Duty 4 in the Windows 7 list:
  • The <br> just means a line break and is really helpful as it puts the next lot of text on a new line.

Code:
  <tr>
    <td>Call of Duty 4</td>
    <td style="background: yellow"></td>
    <td style="background: orange"></td>
    <td><center>No</center></td>
    <td>Single player; works fine on both. <br>Multiplayer x86: Some tweaking required to get punkbuster working. <br>Multiplayer x64: NO current fixes to enable punkbuster to work.</td>
  </tr>

If you need to use more space for Notes feel free to put that extra info in the discussions page.

someone should make a Windows 7 one as well.

I'd really like to know who keeps deleting the dx9 stuff as well.

If there's a typo in the wiki that's what wiki's are for for anyone to edit

Since I posted that I've done editing and cleanup on typos etc for both lists.

I kept the tip of keeping DirectX updated.

As for the DitectX 9c vs 10 half debate thing I removed that as DirectX is one install package for both XP and Vista, 9 and 10.

And the link to the redist was removed as its hard to update every month and now m$ has put a validation req on the full redist.

actually not.

that's why i included the tip and alink to the install.

it's been removed twice now and i would prefer it was left in.

That post was in 07 and I'm sure they have been combined into the latest redist since then if I recall.

EDIT: Yep confirmed the link on that page goes to the end run time combined version.

So its just 1 install now for both versions.

Back in 07 Vista was coming out they had directx 10 but no updates to 9 on xp and 9c was only for vista as a extra if you needed it.

In early 08 because allot of people complained about this compatibility and different versions etc Microsoft merged 9c and 10 into 1 package and made it for all systems post XP in 1 install package.

They should be makes it easier to search through as the Vista one is.

Ill fix it as I'm bored this arvo where I am.

EDIT: Done

Also, Add notes and patch version needed etc if you needed to do anything to get games to work properly other than install/play straight out of the box.

I'll go ahead and neg that DX9 is included in the installation package. AutoCAD 2009 requires DX9, I downloaded the latest DirectX package and AutoCAD would not run, I had to download the DX9 specific package.

Updated Win7 L4D x64 as working.
