You know what, looking back at pics of the plastic mesh bits some proper mesh would look awesome. Not sure how easy it would be to attach/fit in there on an angle though.

The bell end on 100mm HD-orange electrical conduit is ID115mm and OD127mm. Go to your nearest MM electrical, L&H or Auslec and get a joiner or end cap for it.. Should be same size. Or if you get real stuck, I have a short length here with bell end and end cap.. depends on where you live tis'all.

Bentley 5 days a week and Ferndale 2 days a week (weekends), all south of the river, near Cannington.

115mm would do, as it can be smaller than the fan's diameter anyway. Might have to have a trek around when my taxi comes back from holidays.

You know what, that is a point, maybe I could bog it in place, cover it up, and paint over the bog. Only issue with that is trying to get the bog smooth and perfectly roun by hand without breaking through to the plastic, and also if the bog will stick properly to smooth CD spindle plastic or not. I could always drill a few small holes around it to give it anchor points I suppose.

I think I gotta get ghetto with this section.

I managed to get some 100mm Blue Brute PVC after a lot of chasing around, and it's the best your going to get @ 121mm OD, the ID is 110mm.

All I want you do do is cover the postage m8, shoot me a PM.

Done and done. Cheers for that.

I just want to throw a shout out to everyone so-far, and in the future, who has helped me out and/or contributed with ideas/advice and feedback.

I was kinda freaking out about this front blowhole thinking I had stuffed it up last night, but I think it'll work out ok.

Small update!!

So I was stuck on that front blowhole on how to get it nice smooth and perfectly circular. Luckily a fellow OCAU member, xms3500, answered my call for help and sent me a spare piece of PVC pipe that happens to have the exact dimensions I needed for that front blowhole.

Here's the piece of PVC that xms3500 acquired for me and kindly sent to me to help me with my project:

Dimensions:
  • OD: 121mm
  • ID: 110mm
  • Thickness: 5.5mm

Perfect for having a 120mm fan behind it, as it allows some cover area.

You know you have modding fever when you think a piece of PCV piping looks beautiful.

Now that I have this part I can start on the front blowhole as soon as I get access to my workspace and time, so next week sometime you can all expect a major update.

Thanks again to xms3500 for the assistance!

I'm just glad I could help you m8, as your build is fantastic.

Can't wait to see the blow hole done with the PVC.

I was in a modding craze lately as well, my Scythe Ultra Kaze 2000 RPM fans make as much noise as a jet engine so I decided to try my hand at something that is bound to succeed spectacularly, or fail dramatically. The reason I bring this up is because I noticed you're making a blowhole with a PVC pipe, it'd vibrate like hell I'd imagine, if you're concerned with noise you might want to check out what I've done.

Got my Scythe Ultra, used packing foam (the really soft springy stuff) and cut a hole that'd fit the frame of the 120mm fan (covers the frame and frames the fan). When you screw it in, the noise is considerably less. So that the air doesn't get so diffused when it blows out, I used a CD spindle case, a bottle of 1.25L pepsi, and that stuff for wrapping books.
The foam is about 1CM thick, cut it so that it'd fit end to end inside the spindle case. Coated the outside with the sticky book wrapper stuff and put glue on the spindle case (do not put it on the foam, it just absorbs it) and then glued the foam in the spindle. Attached it to my fan, it necks it down from 120 to about 100 but the airflow seems stronger and it's about twice as quiet. Will post pics once I get hold of a K.Rudd's money to buy me a camera.

Noise isn't really an issue, I am using nuts+bolts+rubber grommets.

Blargh, after looking at this case mod and some others, I've realized that I can no longer fight it. I MUST MOD MY CASE!

No work has been done yet, I was hoping to do some work today but had a big day in the field and feel too knackered. Have the whole weekend pretty much during the day though, so should be starting that front blowhole and some other stuff tomorrow and try and get some more done on Sunday.

Stay tuned. Most likely pics will come on Sunday evening when I get home, but I'll log in and give a verbal update.
