PS3 chugging away, and 8800GTX also.
I'm new to this stuff, so my question is can I run the CPU and GPU client on my PC at the same time? Will keep searching for the answer somewhere, bu tpost if you know. Thx. |

I'm in using the GPU. Strange thing is, when I 1st tried folding on the 4870X2, the GPU was only under 30% load but now it's costantly at 99%. I wonder what changed? Still using the same client and same 9.4 drivers. I also OCed the core to 840MHz coz at default it only sits in 2D speed of 500MHz, the downside is that my PC is sucking down 480watts(i7 is also OCed), even at 2D clocks it still uses 393watts which is still way to much to leave on for long periods. Is there a way to produce high output without using so much power as my power bills are very high as it is. I mean yeah sure I could use my laptop but thats like using a lawn mower engine in a drag car and after all this is a race.
I want to help and do my bit, but to run this 24/7 will not make my wallet very happy. So is there a way around this or is this just how it is?

I'm trying to get a hold of SeaDave at OCF in regards to the stats page. He said he'd do it for us, so I'll let you know ASAP when I hear something.

Whatever is the world coming too, the RED BAR OF DHOOM, is now a very soothing pastely shade of turquoise?

I have no idea how much juice my Q9550/dual-4870/HX-620 box is pulling.... and it really doesn't matter. Quote:
This is one of the bad things about folding... the power prices have been going up quite remarkably. Here in NSW, we are looking at a 40% increase over the next 12 months, mainly because of the government's incompetence in building new power generation, high-voltage lines and replacing cables. The Sydney CBD has had 3 power outages in the last few months because a cable was supposed to be replaced but has not been. And on top of that, our PC's get more and more power hungry. It's a worrying thing. PSU's have gone from 400-450W when I started folding, to 500-600W when the SMP client came out, now the GPU client really needs well over 600W - especially a multi-card system. There's guys with 4x nVidia cards in a single chassis, numerous dual-4870X2 machines.... I shudder at the thought of the power costs that these boxes must rack up with their 800W and higher PSU's. Quote:
And thanks for giving us a hand for the competition

Mitsi, you can can make some decent ppd/w boxen still.
I have one pc that pulls 600w at the wall that does 31200ppd. whereas a year ago before the gpu client i was doing 4k ppd max on a box and which was pulling 400w. So comparing now to last year i can build 1 pc that does 8 times the points for 1.5 times the power.

Mmm yeah, you really do need to define "high" when it comes to powerbills around this place.
![]() My own varies from $500-$800 regularly, and there are much sillier ones than that around. (looking at you Teddy!). |

basically it is like remote desktop or vnc, except it will punch a hole in the NAT for you (save port redirects etc) and it wont kill GPU folding (where traditional remote desktop will) oh, that and it is free for personal use! |
