Looks like a 3rd person bow aim to some, apparently.

Some GREAT info!

Thief 4, Deus Ex 3 Targeting Wider Audience

Eidos Montreal has kept Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3 under tight wraps thus far. However, in a recent interview the studio's boss Stephane D'Astous outlined their general strategy with developing the two highly-anticipated sequels.

"I think the challenges lie in that they were very well recognised and appreciated before in the past, but they need to be taken to another level," D'Astous told VGHeaven. "We need to make these games very attractive and accessible to a wider audience without diluting the content."

Both franchises have a very dedicated cult following and some of those fans are no doubt cringing at the phrase "accessible to a wider audience." One big reason Deus Ex: Invisible War (the second game in that series) wasn't as well-received as Deus Ex was that it stripped away the latter's RPG elements. Still, "accessible" doesn't always mean "watered down."

D'Astous is disastrous.

Yes, it does. Nothing has ever proven this otherwise.

I don't know. Deus Ex 3 is looking pretty damn good despite all of the concerns we all had. I'm hoping they can do the same with Thief 4.

I have faith, but then again I had 100% faith in Bioware and DA2 has lost its way a bit

I'll hazard that by more 'accessible', they mean that it will be more action oriented. Not 'watered down' would mean that you can still complete missions stealthily but less design put into the stealth area to make room for fighting.

Should still be a fun game to play. Doubt it will give the great feel of the first two however. Still, they could surprise us all.

Take this as a rumor:

Quote:
"Sources near the project say:

There is a light gem.
The 3rd person was a test, it’s not the case anymore.
The bow is the animation. He’s taking out the bow at that time. He holds it a bit slanted ” / “.
The light wasn’t properly done in this build, so it’s supposed to be dark, that’s what the red line says in the top left corner.

I think that’s about it !"

If there's one thing you can say about Thief with conviction, it's that the tema has always loved the game they've made and a hell of a lot of passion went into it's creation. Yes, even Deadly Shadows.

If they can retain that without selling out, Dues Ex: HR style, I'll be happy. Considering however that it's from largely the same team and targeting the same audience, it's hopeless.

“The success of Deus Ex put two things in perspective for us. Our second game needs to be as good or better than Deus Ex, and it gave a lot of credibility to the studio,” he said.

“Putting a successful game under your belt brings more confidence and credibility, and less red tape. We don’t want to be seen as a one trick pony.”

Woohoo!

Loved the first three games. Shalebridge Cradle still rates as one of my favorite gaming experiences

Will be cool if the game looks like this http://paulmader.blogspot.com.au/200...reenshots.html

considering that was done by some guy in his spare time on the Unreal 3 engine, shouldnt be a problem for modern hardware... oh thats right gotta cater for consoles, sorry forgot

Kotaku writes a piece titled Worrying About Thief 4, discussing the apparent loss of several highly placed developers and suggesting Square Enix has been sitting on a concept video for a number of months:

Quote:
After two-plus years of work on the project, Thief 4 audio director and composer Paul Weir left the Eidos Montreal in March. The month prior, lead level designer Adam Alim went to WB Games Montreal. He apparently is not the only lead level designer to hop off the team — Pierre-Olivier Clement, the previous lead level designer, apparently moved to another project at Eidos Montreal last year. Among other departures: two senior concept artists exited Eidos to a freelance career after nearly two and three years, respectively; a senior technical level designer left last month; a senior animator went back to Ubisoft last September; and a senior level designer moved to something else at Eidos in August.

Quite worrying, not sure I'm a fan of the trailer, seemed more assassins creed mixed with a ninja more so than our beloved Garrett.
