This thread proves that 90% of the general public are retarded. They will let any company walk all over them and all over the market place. I do not begrudge Apple making a profit and but I do not like them messing with the market. You posters only understand the very basics of supply and demand and don't seem to understand how Apple is manipulating the supply side. It seems that only few people can join the dots and see what is going on here.
I am not the one making the world a shit place to live. Your ignorance and stupidity is making this a shit place to live by letting companies get away with anti competative practices and ripping off the public. I am just trying to raise some awareness of an issue that most of you are too blind to see. Here is me thinking I am doing you guys a favour by researching this issue and presenting all the information for you to take action. Specially on the forums, I would have thought you guys would have wanted a cheaper piece of technology. Instead, you guys seem pleased that Apple and Steve Jobs are chaffing your arse. I have no problem paying a bit of Apple tax, but when they manipulate the market I refuse to play ball.

not enough to get free calls? You want the most sought after phone (whether this is misguided or not is not the question) on the planet for nicks too.
We as tech people realise that if you want something sometimes you have to pay a premium. Here's an idea, look for something cheaper that fits your requirements, like you know everyone else does.

To some extent though the issue does hinge on a mobile phone being a commodity item such as say a toaster. For example it seems that Telstra's NextG network is different to the other carriers networks. That requires a phone specifically designed for their network and obviously Telstra needs to be able to supply phones that can use that network or their investment is kind of going nowhere. If this is the case then Telstra would be reasonable in doing a deal with a manufacturer and it could become difficult for 3rd parties to compete on handset sales if the customer specifically wanted a phone they could use on the 3G network. That certainly appears to be the case at the moment. |

I understand exactly what they're doing and why they're doing it - Infact I've sat in a couple of meetings at work about this very 'issue' and I still have no problem with it. You just have your panties in a knot. Vote with your dollar and buy another product, jumping up and down and crying about the world not being fair just makes you look like a hurt little baby. |

I'm not sure if you realise this but the iphones that are sold to retailers are absurdly expensive.
Second we make bugger all on Apple products as prices are dictated to us by Apple. |

Why would reporting illegal actions make me look like a hurt little baby? Is it that you don't care about any anti-competative trading or you don't care about any illegal actions Apple takes? It is hilarious that people just don't care about getting ripped off. People get all upset when their wallet gets stolen or someone breaks into their house, but when a company steal through dodgy sales practices it's alright.

omfg apple are allowed to charge as much for iphones as the market allows them to.
If people don't buy them they lose, but clearly they are not.

and for those that can't afford it and still manage to scrape together money for it, well, it shows you that "worth" and "value" varies significantly between people, not all people who can afford the iphone will rush out and buy it based on your examples, why dont you go and complain about TiVO? wow, i have to fork out a couple of hundred for a damned device that wont even do anything on its own, i have to *gasp* sign up for something that i can use it with, oh wait, it only works with TiVO, damn, there's no competition, complain time and just to rub it at you, optus had a special where you could get the iphone 16gb for ~$20 a month including $20 of calls and the free phone, obviously wasn't available to everyone but hey, its been available before. and this was around 6-8 months ago

Ok, let's put it another way. Who are they forcing out of the market with their overpriced gadgets? Nokia? SE? HTC? Palm?
From what I can see, the only valid reference you've made to consumer law is that they force you to purchase mobile plan with it. This is why prepaid exists - so you can buy it outright. Are you going after Nokia because they have made phones specifically for use with Telstra NextG? You can unlock the phone from the network - nobody is forcing you to use one particular telco. Yes, everyone thinks the iPhone is an overpriced toy, but that doesn't mean anything illegal is going on. Apple set a RRP, and this is what the telcos go buy to price their products. Just because you think it's too much is not a valid reason to believe that they are anti-competitive. If anything it works in their favour, as all their competitors have a cheaper price point. If anything they are pricing themselves out of the market. Oh, and lolz at the grandma reference.

Illegal is illegal. And I have taken it upon myself to speak up about it. If you actually bothered reading the thread you are posting in, you'd see quotes from the relevent legislation. This is blatently contrary to the law and nobody seems to care. Compairing it to another broken law is valid. You care about one and not the other.

Looks like people don't care unfortunately or don't see you point of view. I don't see this thread going anywhere that it hasn't already been, so I'm going to close it for now. I wish you all the best with the ACCC
