I wouldn't say that the JMicron one has been a complete flop. It's probably made far more money for JMicron than the Intel, Samsung, or Idilinx ones have made for those companies. JMicron released what was required at the time: a super-cheap controller that allowed any company to make a SSD very easily. Now that the focus has shifted from just having a SSD to getting decent performance, they're releasing a new model.

Default Solidata IDE SSDs

Any one know what controllers the Solidata P1 or P2 series drives use? They're IDE drives which may be a worthwhile upgrade for older laptops as long as there is no stuttering.

Seen them for sale here.

The recent review by OCIA has some close ups of the flash chips, hopefully this helps fill in some blanks.

I just bought an OCZ Agility yesterday for my new rig and this thread saved me from buying a Apex (with JMicron controller), so thanks to the OP and all those who have contributed to this list.

Hmm, this is wierd ... I'm sure I updated it shortly after this post:

on the 10th, but the changes obviously aren't there. Bizarre. Anyway, thanks for the heads up

Anybody know which controller the A-DATA ones use?

There is a cheap 30GB which I'm tempted to get for my laptop!

Which A-Data drive? I've just updated the first post with what I can find. They do a JMicron drive, an Indilinx drive, a X-25M rebadge, and one drive I can't nail down exactly (though probably another JMicron drive, since they don't mention any cache).

I've just received some (not very helpfull) info from A-Data as I've been attempting to find out what controller they use in their SX81 product.
Although they refuse to say, they do mention there's no cache, so I assume that means the JMicron controller.

Below is a copy of their email...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for supporting A-DATA product.
Sorry the controller of the product is commerce secret ,so we can not
provide you the relevant information.but you can get the detail of the
product on the website we have supplied to you.
SX81 and S391 don't have cache memory, if you want to buy the product
with cache memory, you can choose S592、X-25M or SX95.
The mainly difference between SX81 and S391 is SX81 have a Mini USB
port, it's more convenient than S391.

Cool, I didn't even realize that that the X... drives existed In any case, the SX95 and S592 are definitely Indilinx drives (from the firmware updater and reviews, respectively), but the rest have to be guessed a bit.

What about diagnostic testing SSD's? There doesnt seem to be any tests available I can find for testing the health of the drives. Since now its actually memory companies and not hdd comapnies releasing the drives. How do we test for warranty issues etc? All Ive seen thus far is benching tools.
