Question Alternate video connection options for Wii?

Hi all,

So my GF got a Wii the other week and we were wondering what was the best way of connecting it to a TV without using the Yellow RCA Video cable? As we have only 2x inputs available and they are being used by the DVD players and the Foxtel box.

I had a hunt around and there seems to be S-video-RCA adapters out there so we can use on of the S-Vid inputs instead of needing all the RCA inputs, does anyone know how well this would work?

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Just buy the component cable for it. Problem solved. As long as you have component input on your TV

Yeah it's some newer model 44" LG LCD. I think it has two or three component inputs. How much does it cost? Where can I get it?

Two best places for cables:

http://www.dealextreme.com/

http://www.monoprice.com/

Screw paying even double digits for cables ever again.

Yeah DE was the first place I checked for it, was priced around $9 with free delivery. Might order one now, for that price, even if it is a dud, it's not that much of a loss. On ebay they sell similar ones starting at around $12+ pp...

So I noticed there are a few option on DE for around the same price.. what's the best choice?

480p Component Video Cable for Wii (1.8-Meter)

Wii Component Audio Video AV Cable

Wii Component AV Cable (6ft)

I see they are different lengths, and that the 480p component cable had the best feedback, would this be the best to get then?

There was also this one which was around $4... lots of good and bad feedback.. not really sure...

Just-Works 480p Component AV Cable for Wii

Not sure on the exact size and spec of the TV the GF is using, but it's a 1080p LCD screen.

What do you guys think?

I ended up buying the 480p Component Video Cable for Wii (1.8-Meter) cable for US $9, roughly $11.60 AU.

It seemed like the best cable there.

can i ask if there is any benefit in quality using the component cable over the rca/rgb "composite" connector with the Wii... I understand the quality of component and how it works, but am curious if the Wii takes advantage of the better cables...

i do have an available component port, or at least i will if i disconnect my ps2 from component.. ;-)

Yeah we got the components cable I ordered the other week and it makes a huge difference, especially when you change the video/disp settings on the Wii console. Textures are much better and everything just seems clearer and sharper.

For starters, the Wii can only do 480i/576i over composite. 480p is available over component.

That's double the lines (vertical resolution) in one pass, if it's not obvious.

And if you have an SD TV (so no 480p for you), the picture quality is still miles better, as you're not mashing all your analogue luma/chroma/sync signals down one cable.
