I wonder if we will start to see a movement away from DX9 now the next-gen ATI cards are out? As someone else said, developers make games that suit their user-base and at the moment, most games don't even support DX10, let alone DX11. Games with DX10 often seem to have it 'tacked-on' anyway - like the game is made 95% for DX9 with a few little throw away extras for DX10 users.

I remember when Crysis came out with 'proper' DX10 support and it seemed like the dawn of the next gen of gaming. Since then, how many games have come out that offer any significant benefits in DX10 vs. DX9? Off the top of my head, games like L4D, TF2, Dawn of War 2 and FEAR 2 offered nothing (or next to nothing) in the way of DX10 enhancements. Maybe it's related to Vista flopping and the wave of console-ports but it just seems like no games have really pushed the graphical envelope since Crysis.

I spend my dollars on the PC platform because I want the BEST graphical experience possible using the best tech. But lately, it seems like I have the best tech (vs. consoles) but developers aren't willing to put the effort into creating games that push it to the limit. If there are few game developers out there willing to put the time and effort into pushing the capabilities of high-end hardware, what is the point of spending bundles of cash on extremely powerful products like the 5870?

Do you guys think that the release of the massively powerful 5800 cards and DX11 will lead to games that really push the envelope, or will the bulk of new releases continue to be hamstrung console-ports and last generation engine games?
I can't see why they wouldn't switch to direct X 11, unless it costs them to much to develop for, or nobody buys windows 7.

Not the cheap ones, the HIS we will have today, yes, but it's expensive

$619, we're expecting them today, 2 left at that price.

$580 for the Sapphire @ $49 off?
$545 for HIS.

We're cheaper than that?
Gigabyte is a well known brand, I can't believe you haven't heard of them before. MSY sell lots of Gigabyte parts and are always cheap at MSY. MSY should have stock in about 2-4 weeks. I would rather pay at a pc store where warranty is easy then a online store.

Why pay 2 x $519($1038) when I can just wait for about 1-2 weeks and get 2 x $448($896). That in it self is a saving of $142.

I think the price will settle to around $420 in 4 weeks time.

Where's the store selling them for $448? Yes I've heard of Gigabyte, of course I have, we sell a tonne of their gear. But, they don't have 5870's right now, ready to sell. There's nothing on MSY's pricelist about 5870's. They sell lots of Powercolor now by the looks of things

I don't even see in my post where I said I've never heard of them. I was talking about the store, not the brand.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 (as well as Adobe Premiere CS4) supports hardware acceleration for both ATI and Nvidia cards. As far as Photoshop is concerned, an ATI 4870 worked just as well as a Nvidia GTX 285 (and yes, I have used both).

As for the cheapest price, we seem to be the cheapest with guaranteed stock at the moment
I was going to get a sapphire from you yesterday but you announced around 2pm that you were on your last card for sapphire and by then it was about 4pm when i read that . Do you have more sapphire stock in today if so then I will order 1 from you.

Megaware has stock of the sapphire but they are more expensive then you.

It does but you need to feed the audio from the motherboard (or soundcard) into the Video card. There are SPDIF headers on Nvidia cards, where as ATI have an on-card audio chip.

The reviews i've seen show the 5850 to be more like 50% faster than the 4890. That will do nicely for me.

For those of you needing DP to DVI, Dealextreme is your friend.

Which when you think about it is a much more reasonable explanation than "THEY'RE PULLING A FAST ONE"

Anthony - any eta on 2gb cards?

That is good, because I would like one of these 2GB cards for a new P55 system. Windows 7 x64 will love it, and so will all of my games.
