Wow I heard nothing about that at all!

Amuses me, I never heard of it too, seems nvidia are taking the pressure here. Lets see what they have to show off with their GT300's.

The nvidia event has nothing to do with gamers from what I can tell from their 2 press releases on the 10th. Its all about movie making using the gpu for image processing. Hence why 99% of the population never heard a thing.

the GT300 will be a monster. But it will release too late, and when it does ATI could prob do a 5890 and steal its thunder.

No one renders films on GPU's...

They get lot of $$$ from selling workstation cards into the CAD/3d industries.

Agreed. All the big studios have their own render farms...

I don't see this changing any time soon...

But Nvidia is trying to get a slice of the market. Good on them I say :-)

Sure they maybe using some CUDA stuff here or there buts its probably .01% of the total picture....

Quadro cards on the other hand they sell for by the metric truck load (think every engineering company in the world) and they are significantly more $$$ then gaming cards.

To make it more on topic, what cards are people considering? So far I see a lot of 5870 1Gb, a few 5870 2Gbs and even less 5870x2s.
I'm waiting to see some serious benchmarks/power consumption/pricing information.

I have a 4870x2 which in all honesty is overkill for almost all the games I play. Sooo the 5870 will need to be significantly better than the 4870x2 for me to go there.

I'd like to wait for the new Nvidia cards as well to compare. If I can.

I cant wait for these cards to come out ... I'll happily eat bread and drink water for a month so I can buy two of them ...lol

I tried to play Crysis on my new TH2GO setup yesterday (5040 x 1080) and it was one frustrating slideshow on my 4870 512MB

Crysis playes damn happy with High setting to everything and Crysis Warhead plays damn happy with gamer mode with my GTX 275. Can happily wait even after the next gen GT300 comes out. Will upgrade the graphics crad when Rage from idsoftware comes out. By that time, GT300 will also go down in price I would like to believe. why run after a new graphics card when GTX 275 plays all my present other FPS games with all eye candies enabled ? And I didn't see a visual difference between Crysis High and Ultra high. Damn happy with Crysis high.

I'm pretty happy with my GTX 275 as well, but like some of us here, I like to waste money on new tech :-) I hope AMD's drivers are solid.

2x 5870 2gb for me, and a 5850 for my htpc. Depending on how aftermarket cooling goes for it, I suppose.

try it on a 30" screen it wont play, my quad sli gtx 295 setup can not play crysis on ultra high with the aa set to max its a slide show not due to lack of processing power but at 2560x1600 1gig vram has been exceeded and the game is not playable.
