Default Google Wave

Google Wave was announced at the recent Google I/O developer conference. What would email look like if it was built today?

"Google Wave is a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. "

All I can say is that it's awesome

Looks really cool.

The google people were like crack whores when it comes to applause, they always needed the acknowledgment..

but great product, and it will be interesting how it changes the way we do things on the interwebz

i watched the whole vid, while doing other things so only actually watched parts of it.

looks like a really good technology, will be slow to take off i think but eventually wave style things will replace email i would think, evolution of email, or email 2.0 if you like.

I am looking forward to it, looks too good to be true. One stop social networking\communication\project management and more all rolled into one fully open source protocol so it can be plugged into anything? jeebus!

Loving all these new APIs google is working on atm.

My only question is, with all this aggregation of data, how will website that survive off advertising actually survive when you won't even have to visit the website.

Thats the idea. Google wants you to view the aggregate data on their website, so they can keep 100% of the ad revenue that they're able to generate.

I watched the whole video too - I got sucked in. Looks awesome.

Big fan of Google Reader, Gmail, and Docs - this is the ultimate mashup.

I was quite underwhelmed - so what if you can IM and email in one application / thread? So what if the thumbnails for images show up before being uploaded completely if you happen to be online, and watching that exact thread???
I see this as a minor evolution - there is nothing really cool or revolutionary here, unless I missed it?
Also, this more than likely requires a persistent connection (see comet-d), which as Lars mentioned in the video, you can't easily do for a mobile device, such as the iPhone...

Pretty much, plus the fact that they create thumbnails, and upload them, before uploading the pictures, so they show up in the thread first...
I guess there is a lot of hype associated with the Google devlopers conference, and people there want something to applaud over - they can't release something as profound as google Maps, or Gears every year
