About The Game:

Quote:
Set in the zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Left 4 Dead, the #1 co-op game of 2008.

This co-operative action horror FPS takes you and your friends through the cities, swamps and cemeteries of the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans across five expansive campaigns.

You'll play as one of four new survivors armed with a wide and devastating array of classic and upgraded weapons. In addition to firearms, you'll also get a chance to take out some aggression on infected with a variety of carnage-creating melee weapons, from chainsaws to axes and even the deadly frying pan.

You'll be putting these weapons to the test against (or playing as in Versus) three horrific and formidable new Special Infected. You'll also encounter five new “uncommon” common infected, including the terrifying Mudmen.

Helping to take L4D's frantic, action-packed gameplay to the next level is AI Director 2.0. This improved Director has the ability to procedurally change the weather you'll fight through and the pathways you'll take, in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match your performance. L4D2 promises a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience every time the game is played, custom-fitted to your style of play.
Features:

Quote:
• Next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
• Over 20 new weapons & items headlined by over 10 melee weapons – axe, chainsaw, frying pan, baseball bat – allow you to get up close with the zombies
• New survivors. New Story. New dialogue.
• Five expansive campaigns for co-operative, Versus and Survival game modes.
• An all new multiplayer mode.
• Uncommon common infected. Each of the five new campaigns contains at least one new “uncommon common” zombies which are exclusive to that campaign.
• AI Director 2.0: Advanced technology dubbed “The AI Director” drove L4D's unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. L4D 2 features “The AI Director 2.0” which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
• Stats, rankings, and awards system drives collaborative play.

Not enough content in the first one for the stupidly high box price (although I know they are just trying to push people onto their digital downloads).
Well unless they get much more content in the current game it want be on my radar.

Valve need to seriously improve their netcode in the Source engine to make the new melee weapons worthwhile (see this post for a video explaining what I'm talking about).

Secondly, what's the go with a sequel? It seems unlike Valve to be 'shafting' PC players with unnecessary sequels when they could simply update the original. I'm assuming though it has something to do with Microsoft forcing all publishers to charge Microsoft points for any DLC, and Valve not seeing sense in charging people for DLC on the console, so they've decided to simply release a "new game"...

I am hoping the price is nominal, say, $10-$15 USD.

The Left 4 Dead Survival Pack was free on the 360. Developers can do free DLC, but I suppose Valve can see that they're able make a mint from another full game.

I will probably be trading in my copy of Left 4 Dead for 360 for Left 4 Dead 2... What's the point of keeping the first one if you have the second?.. it's not like there's an intricate and epic storyline involved in these games.

Too early for a L4D2. People are still buying the first 1. I wish they treat L4D like TF2...

Can't blame them for making a sequel rather than releasing tf2 type free updates, I mean they have every right to make money from this. Besides, games like this are worth a shitload more in replay value than the $30-50 purchase price.

Assuming it's priced appropriately, the only other problem I can see is the already short number of L4D servers becoming shorter to make way for L4D2 servers.

Looks fantastic, I've really enjoyed playing the original, team stacking with friends and/or joining friendly pub teams, I see no reason not to pay for another couple of hundred hours of fun.

Also CHAINSAW FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHH~

Not impressive for me. Looks/sounds more like what L4D should've originally been

So they're improving their first attempt at a game and are getting it right for the second... and that's unimpressive?... wow.

It's the same for any other game, RPG, movie, house, car, even LIFE ITSELF. People learn from mistakes.

I just read about it this morning and FUCK YES. COD:MW2 and this at the end of the year, they were the only 2 games I've played alot in 08/09 so HOORAY! Let's hope the graphics are improved alot, I want to be able to shoot legs off and see them fall off the body/blood everywhere.

I want special infected pipe bombs!

I'm really excited for this game now
