end of the day i dont think the samsungs or even the nokia will beat the iphone in terms of web browsing. Upgrading the iphone 3Gs from non iphone would be awesome but upgrading iphone 3G to 3Gs not so much but im gonna buy one outright for me GF tho.

underwhelming, but it was as i expected.

speed bump, slightly improved camera and upped storage. Tethering is a good addition as well as compass should come in handy for GPS when it gets released via software (though dont hold your breath)

nothing really amazing or outstanding there, was hoping they'd pull off something amazing, e.g. camera to rival n95, flash, front face camera, improved screen, smaller/thinner body etc etc.

Will have to see what the plans are like.

Well they will never win against the iphone when it comes to browing due to the screen size but when it comes to build quality and stability the E71 atleast beats it hands down.

I was hoping for a glowing Apple logo!

Nothing will beat the iPhone for browsing in the foreseeable future as the iPhone has the largest relevant and profitable user base. Seriously, who is building Nokia or Samsung or what ever optimised websites?

One of the key items will be proper multi-tasking. I'm currently using an N95 and use the 'alt tab' feature on a frequent basis. Similarly, i use the camera in my N95 for pretty much everything. I don't think a 3 megapixel camera is going to be good enough for me - yes, i understand that megapixels aren't everything, but unless there's a carl zeiss lens (or equivalent), i can't see it taking decent pictures. (Having said that, i'm unsure on the impact of the relevant sensors).

I don't think it's just the screen size. The Samsung i8910 has a bigger (and better screen) at 3.7in vs 3.5in. So i guess we'll see the impact on mobile browsing once that's released. I suspect the success will be driven more by software however (and it's hard to beat Apple in this instance).

I don't use phone cameras all that much, since a $99 digital camera will outdo any mobile phone camera. But using "Darkroom" on the iPhone actually gives decent Photos (well, good enough for facebook - 604px max). It uses the acceleromoter to take the photo when you're holding the camera still, and then it balances your colours and whatever. Love it!

Tom Tom will have an app out soon - http://iphone.tomtom.com/

But it does say you need the car kit for "secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions and hands-free calling, while charging your iPhone at the same time"

I'd hope that you don't really need that car kit for it to work properly

I always have a phone with me, can't say the same for a camera. I wouldn't want to have to carry a camera around all the time just for the occasional random moments where I'd like to use it. Too bad phone camera's are still pretty meh, and don't come close to even a cheap digital camera.

auto focus is a nice feature for the camera, but honestly, all phone camera's are shit, doesn't matter too much if it's 2mp or 8mp, just changes how big the pics are from the awful lens/sensor.

I was also expecting something a bit more, an "updated" design would have been good, not that they have to go crazy but just a bit of a facelift.

The speaker/microphone hardware could also have been improved and I thought the battery life would have been better (i.e. at least 20-30% more overall, not just for video watching and 2G).

The faster processor is great though, along with the compass... I've always had issues with trying to work out which directions to take without any idea of which way I'm traveling.

My contract ends on the 7th of august though, so I will get the 3GS then, but if not for that I'd not be in any great rush.
