I was told to budget $450-$550 p/month for accommodation (shared) on the mountain. Don't need any transport, and I guess food all depends on how you eat.

Good old Superstore. You can get Vegemite and TimTams there if you're a little homesick

I was completely floored when our local Loblaws stores started selling Tim Tams. Ended up buying a pack a week for almost 6 months, even took some to work to get other people to buy them.

TD Canada only needed an address of the hostel. SIN you don't have to wait for the card, just use the piece of paper to give to employer.

I don't think anyone mentioned www.workopolis.com to search for jobs.

Craigslist is ok to find accommodation but for work be very careful of scammers. A lot of fake adverts to get your details and so on to spam you or worse.

For those heading over for the time of the winter olympics, the usual rules apply, reasonable amount of work leading up to and during but afterwards will be a lot quieter and lots of extra people without work.

Just curious about what shoes/pants people will be wearing while in the Canadian cold. I'm doing Condo Housekeeping, so will be wearing black pants and either hiking or running shoes while inside, but have been recommended to get some boots to travel to and from work.

I have a brand new pair of steel cap boots from work (mining sites), but I'm not sure if they will be warm enough. Not sure if I should wait till I'm over there to pick up a pair of suitable boots?

Wait till you're over there mate. You can get some incredibly cheap boots from places such as WalMart etc. Also your steel caps may not be the best - the caps will freeze your toes

I should really go back to Canada.

I was born there so I have a citizenship (also have Aussie for those patriots) so maybe I should go test out the Aussie 'charm' on some unsuspecting Canadians to try and get some work.

Actually, if this job falls through (working for myself) that's what I'm going to do! Take my partner and son and live in Canada for a while!

Edit: I am 32 and came to Australia when I was 3.. have been back for holidays a few times and my Dad has 5 brothers on the western side (Kamloops/Vancouver etc)

OP - I'll give you a yell when I get there!
