It could be a lot of things, and it could be a drop out in the internet connection - the time it takes for a disconnect from EA is much shorter than the time it takes to timeout a connection to vent/ts/mumble.

There are also some providers (such as iinet) that are having issues with EA connectivity at the moment.

Or it could come down to hardware, but that's just speculation without knowing more.

Any overclocks also need to be 100% stable.

Even a stable system will occasionally crash to desktop.

I have reinstalled this game on a clean Windows 7 build.

When playing multiplayer, I only get as far as the following error:

Code:
Game disconnected: you were kicked by PunkBuster. Stated reason: PunkBuster kicked player 'LetMeWinFFS' (for 0 minutes) ... RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure: PnkBstrA.exe
I have Norton AV, which I have tried disabling. It seems to occasionally get as far as the "loading..." screen of the map, but then ends up back on the browser with the above error.

I've tried manually updating PB, and it hasn't helped.

Any ideas?

Are you sure Norton is disabled? (my personal opinion would be to remove it completely)

When you disabled Norton are you sure it didn't turn windows firewall back on?

Do you have a router? does it have a firewall? you could check the logs and see if anything odd coincides with the disconnects.

Make sure the punkbuster service is running (I have a PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe always running in task manager)

You can also have problems with punkbuster due to bad performance, which delays punkbuster from calling home.

My thoughts from the past few nights:

After toiling for 170 hours, I'm finally half-decent at this game. Not get-top-of-the-server-every-round decent, more gets-a-positive-k:d-ratio-every-round decent. This isn't much compared to alot of you but with little practice in previous FPS in the past 5 years and a minor inherent disadvantage (I'm left-handed but play the game righ-handed), it's great for me.

I went 5 rounds in a row with 2:1 or higher kill:death ratio last night. The highlight was a six-person kill with a nade. They were all bunched up and had been softened up by our team, one of them fired smoke for a charge and a perfect grenade through the door annihilated all of them! Was the first time I've been accused of hacking!

Speaking of hacking, there was definitely some funny business going on last night in the TNS Hardcore server. Way too many headshots, shots from across the map and one-shot kills to be legit. After reading the post on Reddit about hacking, it's become easier to work out when people are cheating. It still boggles my mind that some people are so utterly sad and pathetiic that they feel the need to cheat in a computer game. Seriously, if it gets to the point where you need to hack, turn off the computer and do something else!

I'm not sure if I'll keep playing BF3 after Diablo is out. I might give it a break until Close Quarters comes out and see if the new maps are worth playing before deciding whether or not to give it away for good. Whatever the case, choosing between two great games is a decent position to be in!

It was seriously the best pub match I have had without playing in a clan.

Such a completely different match with small numbers. Game went back and forward with tickets all match, till we eventually won and I was pretty impressed with how I played considering pretty much everyone else was on ts and team had virtually no team work (I got revived ONCE)

Battlelog

I got 8 nemesis ribbons in about 10 minutes lol

Unfortunately, reading the "hacker's confessions" makes everyone even more likely to call hacks. Its been said before, and it will be said again, that there are fewer hackers than a lot of people claim.

I think a lot of people will leave (some might come back) once a decent alternative comes on the market. The lack of actual support from the developers (like the server side patch rolling out for future releases, but no hot fix on major gameplay issues like the dart and suppression) has got a lot of people off side. Contrast that with a dev such as Blizzard, and I can see why people leave BF3. If only Blizzard made the BF series...

Lol, yeah it was getting too confusing in clan matches. Someone would yell out..

Team mate
"sniper....over there".
Me
"HUH? What? Are you talking to me?"
TM
"No there is a sniper over there"
Me
"Oh ok"
TM
"Sniper on MCOM!"

MCOM Blows up...

TM
"Sniper where were you? You were suppose to be MCOM"
Me
"Oh right, you were talking to me. I thought you just meant sniper is at MCOMM, I was mortaring their spawn!"
TM
"Why were you mortaring their spawn? Oh fuck it, don't worry".

Or something to that effect lol.

Problem is they are all so use to calling me sniper it's hard for them to break the habbit

"Hey snippp, err Nex, umm venator"

Cheers man. Yeah I hate when I am off my game, so frustrating. A couple of weeks ago I even played a game and went down 0-8 LOL! I was playing so horrible and it was fucking embarrassing...

Was pretty hammered though.

I was having the same problem a while ago, powered down my modem, rebooted, all is good again.

Guys, random question (sorry if slightly OT)

Subjective question I know but would appreciate your thoughts,
1.Is BF3 a game that can be enjoyed and played well at ~40-50fps?
2.Would bumping this up to ~80-90fps enhance your play so significantly to be worth shelling out $500-600 for?
3.Assuming all settings are at their highest, 4x AA vs 2x AA = noticeable?

Background
I game at 2560x1600 and am trying to decide whether or not to sell my Galaxy GC Edition GTX680. I would lose $100 on the card and put those funds + more towards GTX670 SLI.

Thanks and sorry for the slight OT.
