Release date keeps changing all the time...

Behnam Fakhimi the Dev of Legendary seemed to think he would have his hands on a release version of 2.1 very soon; and was insisting it wasn't an April Fool's joke.
I think there will be some developments over the next week

Personally I don't get why people are so upset about the delays, we should all be happy HTC is releasing Android 2.1 for the Hero at all!

guys, i know this is not the LATEST android, but are the custom roms effective in speeding up the phone?

It looks great. and iphone is walking the plank...

YES. Personally, I use MoDaCo's latest Hero custom ROM (3.2 kitchen), and it's way faster than stock, I almost forget what stock was like to use. I haven't transitioned to the 2.1 ROMs yet, but no hurry.

2.1 is out is it?

at the moment i am deciding on Hero, Desire, N1.

I believe 110% that custom ROMS will be promising and beneficial...

Looks forward to it!

Official Hero 2.1 is *still* not out. We've been waiting for it for months

I'd get the Desire, it seems to be the new thing.

thanks for that! thats awesome. i was going to have to 'settle' for hero or N1 or something.

nah, its cool. i already had a pm offer for a mocha unit, which i am tempted at, however, am not sure if i want to settle for an older unit (just concerned with the speed)

www.villainrom.co.uk - Villain 5.2 RC is probably the best one right now.
I installed it yesterday and it's heaps fast and very stable.
However, I had a problem where I just couldn't get a data connection without wireless! Phone was working fine, but no Internet etc.
So I've gone back to Legendary 1.3.5 for now.
