That article gives a bit of a history of the issue.

Ive fired a 40mm many many times.

Realisticly your choice of weapon depends on what you want to do with it. If all you want to do is put holes in paper at the range to pass the time get yourself a .22. Cheap ammo.

Not ignorance. The reason that people started talking about the .416 was as a (legal) alternative to the .50 BMG. So I one-upped them with the .700.

Is the .700NE even legal here?

I cant imagine getting a purchase permit for anything over 10mm would be easy. Biggest thing realistically available would be a rifle for .375H&H.

Question: I'm in NSW and i have my application for Class A and Class B licence. Over the phone i gave hunting and target shooting as my genuine reasons.

I have since decided i only want hunting to be my genuine reason because i have a property owner who will give me permission to shoot, and i don't want to join a club + be obliged to attend 8 times a year.

Can i simply not fill out the section for target shooting on the application and just hand in the hunting section with my application? Or do i need to get new forms sent out?

I'm a bit hazy on this, but I think when they send the forms a lot of it is already filled out from the info you give over the phone or whatever.

I guess if that happens you can always liquid paper it out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't need to attend x times per year, you just have to be a financial member of a club, right?

Least that's the case up here in QLD anyway I think, from what I've been reading lately

No, it's different from state to state. In NSW, you need "genuine reasons" for owning firearms. These are things like target shooting, hunting, primary producer, collector, etc.

If target shooting is one of your genuine reasons, you have to attend an approved range at least 4 times a year.

You need "genuine reasons" up here too. I understand these "genuine reasons", up here you just have to show proof of financial membership of a club, that's all.

You'd think that something like firearms control would be kept a federal and therefore a nationwide standard, hey... Rather than all these different standards of gun control just over some line on a map

In QLD, that's 100% correct for long arms of cat A and B.

Other states have different variations.

Cat H in QLD you do need to go to a certain number of competitions per year otherwise you have to show cause as to why your license shouldn't be revoked.

Bah, nothing to write home about.

The kick from a grenade launcher is minute compared to the 20mm rifle posted previously.
