Hi,

I picked up a new Gigabyte GTX275 from MSY just before the weekend, and running into some strange screen detection issues.

The model is question is the Ultradruable VGA, GV-N275UD-896I. Factory OC'ed to 660/1200MHz.

Setup: The card has 3 connections, 1x HDMI, 1x DVI, 1x VGA(aka 15pin), Dual monitors, one via HDMI, other via DVI.

The issue:
Half the time, on a boot it doesn't initialize a display on POST. Display activates at windows login screen. - Annoying when trying to change bios settings after a reboot.

Sometimes, after boot and loading windows login screen, my SECONDARY monitor initializes but primary does not. Blindly loging in and subsequently removing the reconnecting the signal cable to that monitor it re-initializes and everything is fine.

Could it be the over-engineered in-house design, coupled with 3 connectors it confuses windows? You can however only use any of the two connections at one time(expected).

Drivers are the latest 186.18 WHQL's.

Has anyone come across this issue? Is the card faulty? Take it back for a reference model if they have any in stock?

Cheers, Will.

EDIT: List of users who have posted in this thread noting issues as well with their card:

What are the monitor models? Have you tried swapping the HDMI and DVI cables between the two monitors? What about testing it with just the DVI, VGA, or both the DVI and VGA together (skip HDMI)?

a 22" Asus 222U on the DVI, and a 17" Diamondview on a HDMI -> DVI cable.

I've tried using the included HDMI -> DVI adapter with similar results.

Ok, after about 40 reboots and/or shutdowns, its become completely random.

Sometimes it will show POST info from a cold boot. Right after that i do a shutdown and power up and it wont show POST, however as said, everything is fine once into windows.

I did 10 restart - login - restart loops, all of the didn't show POST. However, i did a full shutdown, then tried the loops again and it was OK

And just now I've booted in and i dont have image(display in standby) on my 22", 17" in active(black image but green LED as per normal for login screen). Currently hooked up 17"LCD VGA, 22" DVI. Again, removing the primary monitor's signal and re-hooking it up fixes things. Seemingly random. Happened 3 times in a row, then now i can't get it to do it again.

At a complete lost here. Previous 9800GTX was fine in the exact setup. Seems like card is somewhat working properl and getting enough power tho. 3DMark Vantage ~P14K, GPU ~11K

In bios is your display set to boot from PCIe?

Old and small monitor for HDMI/DVI, change back to good old RGB (VGA) and keep the HDMI and dongle out of the loop, especially when I doubt your aware what HDMI version the cable is.

I would love to think it was the HDMI messing things up, but even with a single monitor, VIA VGA-RGB connection, does not consistently activate for POST info display. It just stays in standby untill windows has booted. Not saying it NEVER does, it does, but not consistently and is random, for both warm and cold boots.

I have tried the combonations of HDMI + DVI, DVI + VGA and HDMI + VGA.

All except the last case was using the INCLUDED adapter, then using a 24+1 DVI-I cable.

I tested using both cables, and they are fine. Previous setup was flawless and the boot screen always defaulted to the bottom most connection that was connected.

Yep, BIOS is set to initialize PCIe/PCI order.

I've never had a problem with using DVI on that monitor before. Ever since i brought it in 2003 is has always been used with the DVI connection. So was the previous setup using the exact same screens, just a different videocard.

Mine does that too, probably 1 in 50 reboots one of the monitors wont get detected in windows, but upon refresh detect in nvidia control panel it becomes all fine.

More of an annoyance than an actual problem to warrant attention for me, and I am running dual Asus 24's as well

Are you using the Ultra Druable GTX275 660MHz OC, with the HDMI + VGA + DVI outs? Or the other version with 2x DVI's.

While its an annoyance, i believe its a problem that shouldn't exist. It hasn't existed in any of my previous cards, 8800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+.

The real annoying thing is though, the monitor wont get turned on, but the display is still extended to it, and NV panel opens on the non-displaying extended portion.

No, I am just using dual DVI, my gigabyte GTX275 does not have HDMI on the card itself

Just found this thread...

I have the same issue with a Gigabyte GTX260 with single or dual DVI connected monitors, no HDMI.

http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=799748

It is random and insane!

Chalk up another! Gigabyte GTX260+.

Edit: If you're using Windows 7, the common factor between you three seem to be that version of Windows and Gigabyte GPUs.

Edit2: 190.38 WHQL's were released recently too.

The problem occurs before the PC has even gone near a HD, so unless the Windows 7 drivers are re-writing the GFX cards BIOS I can't see how Windows is the issue. Happy to be proved wrong though.

At least we're not alone
