Wouldn't the firmware solution be more simple as not everyone can post their card to Australia to get it modded?

Which is the better and more foolproof solution?

those out of australia dont concern me.
your question is a tricky one, I dont know how their firmware will help a power issue, where as so far from the feedback the additional resistor + ic mod seems to work.
Although if the firmware fixes the issue alltogether and doesnt have any impact on peformance, then its the better solution because delivery of that solution is far better then getting the cards modded.

we'll have to wait and see hey.

OK, just flashed. Flash went smoothly, nothing seemed to have gone wrong.

The problems SEEMED to be solved. I just restarted from the flash and it SEEMED like it worked.

But hey, it could have been one of those 'blue moon boots' where everything seems to be working fine.

I will let you know however if the problem persists.

I suggest others to flash as well. WE MAY HAVE A FIX!

Hurray for the Gigabyte attempt!

Could anyone who mentioned monitor drop outs in the previous posts using the nvidia control panel in windows describe what they were doing, this will allow others who've flashed their cards already to attempt to replicate the drop out issue.
Of course a few cold/warm boot up tests will be need aswell but considering the fault is quite random, it wont take too long to determine that the cards no longer dropping out the video signal.

So far, after 3 reboots. None have lost video signal.

Would all people with GTX 275 who have this screen detection issue flash their card and see the difference?

probably excluding those whove gotten theirs modded.
no need for them unless they continue to have issues, and even then the resistor may need removal i speculate.

if its a monitor compatability, then yeah, i think the firmware will help everyone, because the issue is on digital ports so it may have something to do not only with power but with the digital backend/frontend signals.

OK, just reflashed my GTX275 897H (the one with the robot on it and two DVI ports on the back) to BIOS F3_C. Just rebooted and it kept signal, now I'm actually seeing the BIOS screens. While that did occasionally happen before, I think it's not a coincidence.

Edit: just did a cold shutdown, and rebooted. Video all the way!

Edit: just did several forced reboots trying to get into ExpressGate after missing the time interval as I'd set it to 1 second. No loss of video at all.

Finally, an awesome fix from Gigabyte.

So far 2 problems solved, 18 to go.

Hope those people who posted these problems come back to check the thread.

Will the OP change the title to the fix for this? Something like "Look in here for solution"

Or perhaps sticky this post?

Got both my cards back. Brief testing last night show they are all working without faults.

Anybody tried flashing the BIOS under windows 7? I keep getting errors loading the BIOS update program. I might have to try putting XP onto the machine to update the cards.

How do I check if I have Samsung or Hynix RAM on my 896I?

Not keen on pulling the heatsink off...

Assumed Samsung. Flash went fine. First warm reboot worked fine and everything from POST to Vista login screen showed up.
