Default Borderlands

Hey guys, I spotted this on Ausgamers, seems like quite an exciting concept; a mesh between RPG and FPS (RPS). It's really what I'd been hanging out for in a game (levelling up by shooting things and not just spamming the spell button :/). Didn't see any other threads about it, so hopefully this doesn't get deleted!

Gameplay trailer: http://www.ausgamers.com/videos/view.php/44591
Ausgamers page: http://www.ausgamers.com/games/borderlands/
Wikipedia article (very informative): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderlands_(video_game)

The system that they use to generate different guns has apparently generated over a million different guns, so that part of the game seems interesting. Borderlands is scheduled for an October 23rd release in Australia (for X360, PS3 and PC)

I can't wait to give it a try, and October isn't all that far away. Thoughts?

cwisfa, the trailing ")" is missing from the URL for the wikipedia link.

It looks like a pretty detailed game.
The randomisation and gun combinations sure sounds interesting.

The same concept sounded interesting for Hellgate as well.

Time will tell with this one, on one hand it looks fun, on the other hand it looks stupid. Hopefully it'd be something like Fallout 3.

Looks too cartoonish and stylised to be like Fallout 3 imo.

The characters reminded me a lot of Left For Dead..

Looks interesting...I like how they included the worlds largest digging machine in the game( towards end of the trailer in OP's post ).

Some would say cod 4 and waw are rts/fps's too and this looks like an interesting concept.

So has anyone heard anything new of this game? It's got some good coverage and looks pretty damn good, I think.

Crossbreed Fallout with Diablo and Left4Dead and I think you might be getting close to what this is looking like.

Anyway - I'll be talking with one of the developers in a few days and I was wondering if you guys had any questions you'd like me to ask?

oldschool UT2004 + RPG mod = enough shooty-leveling to last me a lifetime

ugh, rpg invasion. the ultimate bastardisation of UT.

I like the style they're going for with this though, it's mildly original. I've been reading the coverage on RPS and they seem to think it's promising. I think it looks a bit spammy and shallow... I guess time will tell

This new cel-shading art concept... I hope it doesn't stick and have other games follow suit. I don't like it as much as 3D. It's quite similar to how street fighter 4 is like. First saw cel shading in XIII which was a decent game too. I don't know about others, but I get a little sick when I play too much of those games. It's as though they are trying to lure the anime/manga lovers with this kind of thing.

If I wanted an FPS-RPG game though, I'd go back to playing FallOut 3. And if this borderlands game is released near the time L4D 2 is, I'd definitely spend time and money on L4D 2 rather than this. At least L4D has shown to be fun, but this game has nothing but screenshots and a bit of gameplay footage at this moment. A demo of this game would quickly change that.

What a load of shit.

Quote:
The PC version of Gearbox's open-world RPG-shooter Borderlands has been delayed by six days to provide a little more optimisation time, according to an IGN report.

Borderlands will now hit PC in North America on October 26, back from the original date of October 20, while the international release will not arrive until October 30.

"We're optimizing the PC version which takes a few days longer than expected," Charlie Sinhaseni, senior PR manager at publisher 2K Games, told IGN.
Oh right, so you can guess that it will take exactly 6 days longer to optimize? Right. Couldn't just delay the rest as well? Nothing to do with wanting to sell it on consoles just a little bit more? Noooooo! Of course not.

I think you'll cope waiting one more week.

Oh will I? Thanks for that. It's not the point though is it, they all want to say PC gaming is dying and not worth making games for yet every single release is delayed so everyone with a console as well is tempted to get it.

Surprise surprise, Assassins Creed 2 PC was just pushed back to 'early 2010' while consoles get it in November.
