My budget is $100, and definitely looking at circum-aural closed. I want noise isolation, and noise cancelling would be nice, but not essential. Will be going on a few flights in May, but beyond that may not need much in the way of noise cancelling.

Creative Aurvana X-fi. Lower spec than the Live, but seems to have good reviews (4 years ago), noise cancelling, and postsampling may help on low quality tracks. $79
At that budget forget NC, they will suck. Postsampling? nothing will make low quality files sound better. There is upsampling, but that's implemented in DACs not headphones, doesn't make nay claims to make poor quality better, and you won't get anything decent in a $80 product.

Shure 440 is worth looking at.

After something for work, I currently have some Beyer DT231pro's but I have to set the volume pretty low so that they don't leak.

So basically: <$200, don't leak, comfy

edit:159$ delivered from logitechshop.com.au, they are on sale now and is a huge bargain for a high end triple driver iem

Not looking to spend more than $50 so im not expecting anything amazing, just want something that does the job. I really have no idea whats out there, i have heaps of problems with standard ipod earphones falling out of my ears too. Cheers.

Got a set of the Bowl pads for my Alessandro MS-1's cause the foam was starting to deteriorate. Couldn't believe it would make such a difference. Not only are the headphones even more comfortable, but they sound better. I have actually flattened out the EQ curve I was using cause there is just more sound. Cheers Snufkin.

I use Brainwavz M2's. I find canal phones are much better for not coming out. I use the foam tips for better isolation cause the only time I use these are at the gym and need to block out the craptastic music they play, or on my motorbike on longer trips.

But some people are whingers and can't stand canal phones.

Yeah, we've had huge demand - the staff are looking forward to building a big fort out of our next shipment (due any minute now).

hey all, looking at a pair of cans to replace my 10 y.o. Philips cans, looking at the AKG Q701's,

Just wondering if my ASUS Xonar DX card will suffice in powering the headphones??

From what I've gathered so far, the Q701 are quite a hassle to run. I don't think the DX can do those phones justice, though it's not so much the impedence. What I gather is that it's got something to do with its low sensitivity.

EDIT: I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but Grado headphones have made their appearance at PC Case Gear. Assuming that there is no Australian distributor of such things, they could have imported it from somewhere.

Looking to pick up another set of cans, with a bit more bass to compliment my K702s.

Thinking DT880 or possibly DT990 (both about $300 delivered from Amazon)

Music Streamer II -> M-Stage

250 or 600ohm is the question???

250. Why make it harder to drive?

880 won't that much extra bass over the 702.

Must be some advantage to the 600s else they wouldn't exist... /shrug.

There is. Do you have a studio at home with high power amplifiers used with multiple equipment? If so, go for your life.

http://www.akg.com/site/product_tipp...nguage,EN.html

But at consumer level it's just another must-have for the audiophile market. Higher ohms of the same model don't = better product. The idea marketed is that they have lower floor noise - something I've never even heard with cheaper, lower ohm phones, and noisy sound cards don't count as floor noise - that's interference.

You can go on head fi and read all sorts of cods about 600 ohm versions, but so long as you're aware it's a shill and hype factory....

That said, the Matrix M-Stage is a tasty amp for 250+ ohm phones.
