Looking for some advice on a headphone upgrade.

I have a Xonar D1 and off it I run AKG K55 headphones. They have been great for the price but I'd like something better.

My usage:

-Gaming
-Music (trance, classical, heavy metal, a bit of everything!)
-Occasional movie watching

What I'm after in headphones:

-Build quality
-Comfort
-Slight bass emphasis
-Single-sided cable (preferred)

Would like to spend between $150-$200

Well, bass emphasis rules out the AD700. Have a look at this one. Some don't find it comfy, but that is always subjective.

i would never use those 440 ever again. Very big and uncomfy. You cant stretch for AD900s?

a lot here are selling around the $200. I got mine here for $180.

Thanks for the tips.

Would prefer around $200 if possible. Wondering if maybe I can stretch to these

Edit: I think I could live with the AD700 actually- I can always play with EQ if I want more bass

If Marcus puts a Recommended on them, they're a good pick.

Looking for some advice on headphones for my son.

His usage:

-Gaming (PC/PS3)
-Music (HTC Desire / Ipod)
-Occasional movie watching (PS3)

What he's after in headphones:

-Build quality
-Comfort
-Bluetooth and cabled?
-Possibly a mike for gaming, but not essential.

Would like to spend between $150-$200
Going bluetooth sounds like the right option for me, as he has bt on the PC, PS3, and phone.

Not if you want half decent SQ and positional sound, which you're unlikely to get in a BT set at twice that price.

The AD700 is probably the most recommended phone for mixed gaming and music use.

I'm testing some Sennheiser bluetooth headphones at the moment (Sennheiser MM500-X) and I'm not sure if there's a way to stream movies from the PS3 to them - they work straight up as a headset for voice comms. With my phone they work fine with music etc.

With a budget of $150-$200 bluetooth will give reduced sound quality and less connectivity options than wired, I wouldn't recommend it.

Are the AD900's much better than the AD700's to justify the price increase?

im using my new Shure 940s atm and my god the clarity and sound stage for closed headphones are impressive, im glad i bought these, im some way similar to the 900s i think. Mid are quite good i must admit. Im not using the EQ at all so i can compare then to my 900s.
Do you prefer the 940's or ADH900's? Both are around the same price but I am really in favour of the detachable cable on the 940.
