choice, cheers mate. there are very few options around for me - but at least pccasegear are the cheapest, and they're quite reliable, so i guess i'm a little lucky

Default 2.0 or 2.1 setup

to all audiophiles/audio expert out there,

will it be better to get a pair of Audioengine a2/a5s or a pair of book shelf speakers + a subwoofer. i was going for the 2.0 setup before, but heard that the 2.1 setup is better value??? any ideas anyone?

it's to be used with a pc for general purpose(music, video etc). if it's better with 2.1, any recommendations for the speakers+sub? if not any alternatives to the audioengines?

thanks

I am in the market for a new pair of speakers as well, preferably under $500.

Right now I am looking at:
Aktimate minis
Audioengine A5
LSK M4 or M5
Firefox 602 or 612
Nuforce S-1

Are there any more suggestions? I would appreciate it if thoughts were offered. I only have a usb sound card. The asus u1

The only pair I have heard are the aktimates and I was quite impressed with them. I am curious to how the other speakers compare.

Both the LSK kits and the Firefox need amplification - the Aktimates and A5s/A2s are powered, with the amp built into the speaker. With the M4s though, you'll need to buy an amp to power them (which adds another ~$300 if you want a basic one).

Default Need new speakers!!!

Hi Guys, I am looking for some recommendations on some new speakers. The budget is around $200 (but can go past that) I only need a 2.1 setup, and the speakers have you be not too wide (about 3 inch/75mm) as there is limited space on my desk. Thanks for you help.

I kinda wanted to stay away from Logitech, and wanted to try something else. But thanks anyway.

cant see why not as they are pretty cheap and i don't see much else in that budget range that you would pick over them other then a 2.0 system and that would be more likely to show the crappiness of the soundcard (not that that matters as you can always get a soundcard later even if its a cheap one)

ok dunno if anyone is reading this thread, but anyway.

tried out a set of $40 logitech LS11 speakers (run on mains power) and they are awesome speakers for their size and rating.
also had a shot at aset of $97 logitech V20 speakers which run on USB and they were also pretty good given what they are.

went to JB-Hi and ended up getting a set of $42 altec lansing BXR1220 usb power speakers (the funny barrel looking ones) and sound is pretty good given they are snmall and run off usb.

cheers
