lol omg, look. What im saying is that you CANNOT claim speakers are great until you have personally heard them, sound is very subjective. I have owned quite a few sets of 'computer' speakers, and each time i upgrade i wonder wtf i was thinking when i thought that the previous model i had was good. And now i use my own built speakers and amps which are made to my tastes and sometimes dont cost that much.

I mean my speakers which i am building at the moment are costing around 400 for the pair. Which happens to be similar price for a 'decent' 2.1 computer set, but it shits all over them (the drivers are used in many very expensive speakers, but the drivers actually dont cost too much, as long as you buy them overseas hahaha Fostex ftw ). Then i go on building amps and subs and making all my own things.

Now i know this is a completely different topic and it really doesnt fit here. But what im trying to say is that until you hear something, you cant take others opinions in full. Sound is too personal. I mean why do some people like rock and other like hiphop and others like jazz???

In terms of specific computer speakers, i have never been able to name a set which, for the same price, is better than a pair of equally priced bookshelves, powered or not. That is my opinion, to my tastes. If you like the edifiers, then go ahead and BE HAPPY WITH THEM, its what sound is all about

You are right, its a good point. However, as you move up the price bracket, you are going to please more and more people with the same speakers. Especially given the options to adjust the bass treble, and sub output. As well as onscreen using a grpahic equaliser.

You are right that sound is personal. But all the same, I have never heard the Edifiers, but I would bet a lot of money that when they arrive (hopefully today MrGAdget!) I will like them. I just know this from what I have read.

Now what you have got yourself there is a 2.0 set for $400, am I right? Maybe the quality is better, but I bet it still cant compete with these 2.1s because there is no sub to fill in the low end. Already you have spent $70 more than what I paid, and if you wanted to add a sub, well, I know what you audiophile types are like, there would be another, what? $400?

I do agree its kind cool to build your own, and It would be nice to have the know how to do that thats for sure. But you wouldnt get all the cool stylings of the edifiers. I think that blue lcd looks pretty neat.

O Shit,

Looks as though I may have been burned, and I payed by internet transfer, not PayPal.

O shit:

Dammit, gunna ring the bank, see if they can do anything for me....

EDIT: Just rang 1300 MR GADGET, and I got through to him. After waht I read I wasnt exactly polite, but it didnt sound like he was trying to screw me. He said I can expect it by the middle of next week. Could be a stalling tactic, but we shall see.

Im pissed off now, should have bought from Scortec.

I found Altec Lansing is the best speaker brand. Logitech is just too widespread and the quality is really low.

I've listened to speakers that have had rave reviews then I absolutely hated when I listened to them- and this is in the $15-20,000 bracket too...

I'd MUCH rather a GOOD 2.0 setup than 2.1 setup. If the speaker is designed right, you don't need a sub to fill in the low end. I'd rather have less bass that's quality, rather than having lots of muddy, slow crap - which I can almost guarantee you is what you'll get. A DIY sub for ~$800-1000 will compete with brand name stuff that's 3-4x the price and sound GOOD. Want to hear a sub that sounds good? Go listen to the Velodyne DD series

I don't see the point of this thread. People are recommending speakers that vary from thousands of dollars to things that most people would consider to be pretty terrible. For some people, the computer is their main music system, while for others, the computer is for gaming. Others haven't heard a decent system in their life and think the Logitechs are the best speakers in the world. Similarly there's also a few audio snobs.

My iPod is my main music system, i'm out of the house more than im at home.
The reason i got the speakers i have is because all around, they're performance is great for what they cost me. Listening to them at max right now, and the sound is blowing me away. Man I cant wait for my soundcard.

yeah your right, its a 2.0 system using a full range driver which actually goes pretty low (fe207e) and a tweeter (ft17h). They will hopefully turn out really well. I already built a sub similar to Mex's build, just painting it atm. It uses a peerless XLS driver and passive radiator. Of course this stuff is more expensive etc etc. My point was never to compare it, just to say people have their opinions and if you are happy with the sound, that is what matter.

Im no audiophile, infact i hate most of them. Claiming adding cones to the bottom of an amp makes the sound more 'clear and alive' and all sorts of bullshit. Thats not what i like doing. I like building things, im actually an engineer haha. Thats what i enjoy, so i like building a set of speakers and i like building the odd amp, i find it fun and yeah, i save some cash in doing so while also getting some speakers/amp which a bunch of nerds have worked the past 5 years perfecting. Thats my hobby in a nutshell haha

Also, i havent read the entire thread, so i dunno who was asking about what speakers to buy haha, everyone is probably too scared now lol!

Haha, thats probably true actually!

Fair enough each to their own and all that, sounds like a good hobby, if I had the cash and the know how, I would probably do that myself.

I reckon if you buy that $300 power cable for your amp, it'll totally improve your sound

I was actually considering building some full range bookshelf speakers with the FE127E's - just been too lazy to get around to doing it.

I currently have Logitech z2300 I have about 400ish to spend, and want louder speakers I listen to bass heavy stuff, so nice loud sub would be nice.

Mate, go back a couple of pages, and check out my suggestion for Edifier s530s. There are reviews etc.

Dont buy them from MrGadget though, whatever you do!

They look like good quality, but don't seem to be as loud. Right now I don't mind the quality at 3/4 volume I just really need a stronger sub which can hits deep beats hard. I listen to music with a shit load of base, and I think my z2300 Sub is about to die lol.

Really?

All the reviews I have read say the volume goes absolutely through the roof without distortion. One review there says, they didnt turn it all the way up cause they just couldnt stand it.

As for the sub, my impression is that it is very capable. Search reviews on google, you might have to google translate some, but I have never yet heard a gripe about the sub...
