I believe it was on Tobe Blystads Twitter (possibly someone else at Eidos), something to do with piracy.

What does piracy have to do with dumbing a game down?

Good question

Probably an excuse to leave the old audience behind in favor of a new one. Here's the Tweet:

Neon_25: Why do you want it to appeal broadly? AFAIK Blood Money sold extremely well, while retaining the "hardcore" values.

ToreBlystad: Blood money was also extremeny expensive to produce and suffered a lot of piracy..

Lol they made my day. I hope they release a demo so we can play it, laugh and denounce it, and not buy or even pirate the full game because it's a pitiful piece of crap.

EDIT: Can't spell Ignorance without IGN

So then the old audience pirates it and doesn't buy it because they've ruined it and the new audience doesn't play it because they're not familiar with the series any way and their mum makes them have to choose between this or MW3.

Problem solved!

At least it will die, unlike COD. How many times have they done CPR on that series now?

Problem: New Hitman being "streamlined" and made "accessible" to casual gamers because the last one was pirated.

Solution: Teach the casuals how to pirate.

Yeah reading that made me think.

"So their logic is that they want to market the game to a dumber crowd as they are less likely to pirate it".

Doesn't that kinda just insult everyone involved there? lol.

Lol fuck wait, hitman anyway?. I got blood money on steam before and that wasn't even that cerebral. If you wanted to you could go fucking insane and just shoot everyone lol. It's just if you wanted to be pro you would require thinking some.

Can someone define 'casual' to me? I'd consider myself to be a casual gamer, but every time someone mentions 'casuals', they're talking about people who don't like the same things as me...

Since when is piracy an excuse to change markets? Maybe they should spend more time on protection. Alternatively, if games were more affordable, people would be less likely to go through the efforts of pirating it in the first place IMO (but that's another argument for another time).
