Yeah. It looks to be the definition of dumbed down, I haven't seen anything quite this bad in years. Maybe ever. It definitely looks good, cool, whatever - if you can look at it objectively as a game away from what Hitman is about. As a Hitman game? Get the fuck out. It's like the complete opposite of everything it once stood for.

They say you don't need to use Instinct, but you don't exactly design a game around certain mechanics then expect players to completely ignore them. Just like with Deus Ex 3, the most efficient way to take the enemy out and be rewarded for it out is to sneak around and punch them in the back of the head, so that's what people do. If you ignore that you miss out on a whole lot and it doesn't play nicely as a straight FPS.

It's clearly motivated by greed, the series has always done well in the past, but it was by different people in the company who put the experience before projected sales figures. It would have made money either way. Oh well, less money for them from me.

My expectations dropped when the developer was saying how 'the old levels were HUGE, now we've made levels into small areas where you only alert the guards in one or two rooms...'

This game isn't hitman.

Wow. Why...???

I can't even imagine wider accessibility to be reason for this. A modern-world assassin game can be so easily marketed to be 'cool and trendy'.

Yeah it looks amazing. But how does it play? Crysis 2 and MoH both looked amazing pre-release...

The trailer looks amazing, but you don't play a trailer. The gameplay they have released so far looks like a series of steps down a linear path, until they release something from a level that isn't part of the tutorial I don't think anyone can say how it'll play

I meant looked amazing to play, scroll up and look at the in game demo, going by that it looks like a lot of fun.

The trailer doesn't even look like that tbh.

"Press B to do EXTREME TAKEDOWN!"

"Follow the arrow/straight path through the level"

"uh oh! watch out for bad guys! press A to kill them all"

Yeah... this'll be so fun compared to the original hitman games

Even if a game doesn't lead you by the hand, there's usually only one specific way to play a level in a new game - i.e. you have to go under a specific window, which then queues a bad guy to walk over and wait for you to grab + throw them out, then you jump in and the game *wants* you to shoot two baddies, before going to the door at the end of the hall... etc..

It's a sad state of affairs.

That's what I'm saying. The trailer looks good, but the we've only seen a small sample of gameplay. The first mission I think it was.

I think we knew all we had to know when 47 dive through a window in a MAXIMUM-XTREEEEEM!!! fashion.

This is shaping up to be the Splinter Cell: Conviction of the series.

And since when was Hitman just a stealth game? I also shudder to think who's voicing him now they've canned David Bateson.

I think you are all exaggerating, though I'm going to guess you guys didn't like the latest Deus Ex either.

Single button takedowns are a great addition, it was a pain in the ass to clumsily take out the neck wire in the early hitmans, half the time I'd end up walking into him and having to reload.

They have movies for that. Just slot the Hitman movie into a DVD player, hit the single-button takedown (also known as the "Play" button) on the remote and WIN!

All the level of interactivity takedown junkies enjoy, with even better graphics!

What's the difference between a single button take down and pressing inventory, select wire, then moving up behind him and pressing attack?

The latter is clumsy, the former is much simpler? You still have to get behind him undetected.

The amount of whinging that goes on in the gaming forum here is unbelievable.

You didn't hear? In one of the older trailers you can hear Mr Generic do a one liner.

No kidding, they were quoted saying it was confusing for players to look at multiple paths so they've reduced it all, something around the lines of "why have 10 doors when you can have two?". Ngggh.

I played the first game when I was 13 and new to PC gaming. If I could figure that game out and play it as it were intended then I have no fucking idea what level of intelligence they're targeting for this iteration, considering it'll have adult ratings.

Let's take at some more nauseating quotes:

Quote:
"Most people, I mean normal humans, when they play Hitman games - the old games - they kind of feel like a rubbish assassin that just has to bring out his guns and then start shooting everybody."
(again, I was 13, apparently normal humans only have the intelligence of anything below that)

Quote:
We'd rather try to tempt the stealthy players to go into a more action-oriented direction.
Sounds like Hitman to me!

Quote:
We'd rather have them do more organic paths, and we found that we needed a tool for the player to be able to anticipate whatever the AI would be doing, so that they could feel safe and not be busted at any random time
Worrying about being 'busted at any random time' comes naturally when diguising yourself and concealing a weapon with the intent to murder somebody. You should not feel safe. You are the worlds most distinguished assassin for a reason, dealing with these situations comes with the territory.

There's plenty more out there and none of it makes the game sound anything like H1/2/3/4 - the evidence is ridiculously overwhelming. I guess for the 50th time we play wait and see to confirm the inevitable.

Have you genuinely enjoyed a game in the last 2 years phill? I don't think I have EVER heard a single positive non whiney post from you.

I'm serious, I've never read a single positive reply from you.
