With a lot of corporates bypassing Vista, no real push from that sector, to get 3rd party manufacturers to put any real effort into getting drivers for Vista out.

I see your point, but it could also be argued as a chicken / egg scenario.

Vista is good once you do teaks to it make run smoother but I am having issue with the networking to XP.

I supposed vista is pretty good but I would happily convert back to XP if need be.
MY point is Vista is not the best operating system

Seriously whocares if you think Vista is crap or not, if you couldn't get it running well on your own rig then bad luck.... but you don't need to go and tell everyone who had it running fine, that they are wrong....

Ive had problems with Windows 7... does that mean I should go around and tell everyone that it's crap?

Don't really want to offend, but I gotta point out that your comment is bizarre!

Your comment assumes and implies that, because corporate uptake of Vista hasn't been large to date, there must necessarily be a lack of device drivers for the platform.

Not the case. Virtually all hardware released within the past 3 years has both 32-bit and 64-bit device drivers available for use under Vista. The overwhelming majority of hardware released before that date and still in current use has suitable device drivers available, and the vast majority of that has both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers available. 'Legacy' device driver support for Vista is better than that seen in any other Windows release before it. All new hardware in recent times has has compatible drivers available right from the outset.

That's a completely pointless point to make, because for anybody to claim that any OS whatsoever is the "best" would be absolutely foolish and meaningless. Different people have different usages, needs and wants, and will have their own preferences regarding OS of choice.

classic human scenario that they had a problem, so everyone else has the exact same problem.... or they just try and drag you down with the sinking ship they are on.

Vista is a sinking ship. The ME of the 2000's.

Used it since RC stage. Never really impressed with it right throughout its lifecycle.

Win 7 beta (and now RC) feels so much faster and the UI is more logical. Vista laid the foundation for what Win 7 has become. Vista had plenty of enhancements and features that made it nicer to use then XP in some ways but even on modern hardware its a dog of a thing. Takes forever to start up and shut down compared to Windows 7 on the same hardware.

Part of the reason people hated it so much was because they changed too much all at once and it really is a dog of a thing. Not to mention the poor support from hardware vendors. Everyone likes Win 7 cause it was what Vista was supposed to be. But even if Vista never existed and Win 7 was released in its place there would still be problems with learning curve and compatibility - but at least it wouldn't be dog slow!

I agree some of the UI changes are crap. I never understood why they had to rename perfectly reasonably named things like 'Add & Remove Programs' to 'Programs and Features'?

That's the only issue for me. Hardware support is 100%, better than XP and it's performance has been reasonable (comparable to XP when it launched).

No.
Thats just your interpretation of whats there.
What was meant by what was posted was the lack of interest in Vista by the majority.

Third party driver support for the OS, from the outset was not good.
Are you trying to suggest that the issues that ppl had with the product, especially prior to SP1, were ppl issues, rather than product?

Clearly ppl with your thinking did not have the product early in its life.

If you need proof of that, do a search on Google for issues with Vista.

MS verified what a lot of ppl were/are saying about the product, when they gave up on pushing it, and made it clear that Win 7, was not going to be too far away.

As hard as it was to get used to, it made sense. Did you ever install something (that wasn't a Windows component) via add / remove?

1. Blame Steam and the game developers
2. I dont know what kind of issue you have but do not blame Vista. I know that both work well
3. Blame IE
4. Again not an issue on which you can blame Vista. Never had any problems

Seriously, you are doing it wrong if you have those issues
