looks like pve will be so much fun. Still worried about pvp, can already see ranged classes owning it up by just casting and rolling around the place constantly.

Maybe. I suspect even those classes that are melee dominant have some decent ranged skills. For example, they demoed the warrior doing some interesting ranged firebomb bow attack (I think).

If this game is half as good to play as it looks, I better start getting my life organised now - won't have one after it comes out. :P

11/50 on my Mesmer main. 350 of 736 hours played.

Finally learnt how to 55 monk last week. Now I just need a SS nuker or something to help me actually kill shizzle.

Need to get bulk cash to buy some new armour sets to devote to the HoM.

Bring on GW2, but not too soon.

I dont know if HoM is enough to get me back into GW tho...

I rather just get into GW2... you can keep adding HoM rewards after GW2 is released apparently.

The rewards for getting stuff in GW1 aren't going to be all that amazing... Just low level pets/weapons and vanity stuff. Probably not worth grinding gw1 for, unless you were wanting to do those those 'achievements' anyway.

Well, I'm not playing any other MMO at the moment, so I'm happy to kill time grinding out HoM stuff. No hurry, but at least I now have definitive reward progression beyond a title that I won't care about for GW2.

I've never played GW1 but I'm interested in GW2. From the sounds of it, name changes (and multiple character slots) are one of the ways the devs rake in cash in place of a subscription model? Safe to assume the same is going to be true of GW2?

The primary campaigns of GW1 (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall) are full games. No subscription model.

The expansion Eye of the North requires Prophecies and adds additional content to the map of Tyria.
Again, no subscription model.

The micro-transactions that you can make i.e. bonus missions, PVP gear unlock kits, skill unlock kits, more storage, more character slots, name changes, cosmetic changes are all optional.

The unlocks dont really disadvantage other players because the skills can be obtained by everyone in PvE.... well that's if you can get to those areas (i.e. to unlock pvp skills in the Factions campaign you need to own that particular campaign to get those skills).

GW2 is looking at being more open world and keeping the non-subscription model.... so can be quite excited for that!

The way the dev rakes in cash... the marketing is much more subtle than other games out there.

They made their cash from GW1 from game sales of the original, which had a fairly high price for quite some time, then expansions. Factions/Nightfall/Eye of the North. You didnt need to buy anything from their shop and you still dont. I didnt buy anything from it and i was a fairly hardcore pvper.

To compare:

Ive spent probably around 160 bucks on Guildwars.

I used to play wow, i would esitimate that i spent maybe around 200 bucks on it. Thats Original Game, BC, WOTLK + Sub fees.

Yeah I've bought everything from the in game store except for name change and char makeover, and I still come up way less money spent than on my 18 months of WoW.

I also have 4 GW accounts.
