So you got infected and are blaming your anti-virus?

If Norton had shit to do with it then it would be a software firewall and it wouldn't run on the router. Granted router based hardware firewalls aren't the be and end all, but the Cisco ones shit all over any software based firewall, they're just a lot harder to config and monitor and short of an actual hardware firewall, they're comparatively affordable.

No solution is completely infallible. The not so good alternative is to not have any protection at all.

I must say that there is, as always in life, no completely infallible solution. For the time being I use AVIRA, knowing that it is not completely infallible.

Some are better than others, but people should not get upset at their AV software if something gets through.

I forgot to mention that not all are bad, but also not all are good.

What counts is own experience, not everything what other people believe to be true, is true as such.

Needs to be a combination of one's own experience and others shared experiences. Which is why we have so many threads asking about the best AV software.

Yup, I kinda got turned off the whole best anti-virus thing (years ago) when people weren't arguing about the detection rate or how some of the newer anti-malware apps were catching spyware/adware and others and some weren't even trying, and it became a question of memory usage.

So the 'best' anti-malware app would have to have the highest detection rate, the smallest memory footprint, smallest update size, easiest to use, best gui and optional all-in-one Internet defender packages... tbh I don't think any of them fit that description.

Software firewalls have their place; your NAT router will only stop unsolicited inbound traffic, outbound traffic is another story... a 0-day keylogger that your A/V doesn't pickup will typically get caught out by the software firewall.

Install all the antiviruses/antispyware/firewalls in the world.

Constantly monitor your internet traffic. Anything goes wrong, pull the plug.

Now theres an infallible solution.

Unless of course, the person is using your computer.
