Default [VIC] Logo/Branding Competition for Villages of Mt Dandenong

This might be of interest to some of you:

The Villages of Mt Dandenong are holding a logo/branding design competition.

Details on their website: http://bit.ly/zYb5D

There is a package prize worth $2000. It's open to recent design grads and students

Disclaimer: My Wife is on the Mt D' Villages board, but I myself have nothing to do with any of running of that or decisions about winners or anything at all

you forgot to mention its only open to ppl in victoria...

Quote from the PDF on the site:

We are wanting a fresh and youthful brand and logo which is why we are throwing it over to you. This competition is open to students of graphic design in Victoria who are currently studying or have completed their studies but have yet to secure industry employment.

It is Victoria only I'm afraid.

I think as it's a regional tourism destination it was felt local designers should be given the chance first. Plus the winning designer may need to meet and work with the team that puts the winning design into circulation.

I've sent it around to a few graphic designer friends who might be interested.
It seems like it's best suited to students as the potential prize money really doesn't equate to any significant profitable time.

Thanks.

It's exclusively pitched at Design & Graphic Arts students and those that have recently graduated.

Essentially a chance to get some real high profile portfolio-builder work with a decent reward. It's an increasingly tough industry to get into without experience.

Really the Villages are wanting fresh and interesting ideas more than anything. A professional agency will work to produce any final artwork etc...

Why not just get a professional company to do it for $2k and no waste a whole bunch of students time?

Thank you for the negative comments.

Not sure why you think it's wasting Students time. But anyway...

The organisation has a limited budget. The prize is made up of goods and services provided by local shops and businesses. It's a genuinely valuable and worthwhile prize.

Being a community organisation it was felt that it would be a good way to give young students a chance at some high profile portfolio work.

The Villages want to see some interesting and fresh ideas. Spending $2k with an Agency doesnt get you very far and can quickly be burned up in concept artwork fees.

Once the winner has been decided a professional agency is on board to handle final artwork and so on.

If anyone is thinking of entering but isnt sure, I'd recommend you just have a go. It's the idea more than anything that the judges are looking for.

Thanks, Alex

The final 12 entries are currently displayed on the website: http://www.villagesofmtdandenong.com.au

There's still a chance for anyone to submit any last minute entries you may have
