i wanna see if i can copy the closed beta files to my steam directory, but i might do the client patch first, which is about 1.3gig, but i doubt it downloads that much, alot of compression

Open beta will start at 10AM 12/01/10 Pacific Standard Time. Which is 5AM 13/01/10 Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

urgh, why couldn't cryptic put the new patched client up on steam, basically it wants to download the latest client again, then once you have done that you got to open up the launcher and it patches back to a previous version. I've done this with my closed beta installation, but steam is wanting to go back to the new one.

For those that want to test this without actually paying for the full game first, you can get free open beta keys from tentonhammer:

Be quick - I imagine they'll go fast.

EDIT: You can get free keys from Fileplanet too I believe.

didnt know if the closed beta key carries over so I got both now

, I wait till the end of open beta to decide on if I buy STO or not

Im not going to bother with letting steam downloading and installing until its officially released. I think we might get a second retail key added once it is. Hopefully i can update to retail using the open beta, then copy the files across after.

Step 1. go to http://www.startrekonline.com/betacard and log in

Step 2. type JIH MUSHA SOH

Step 3. Click Submit

I can confirm it works.
