Default dual port SAS?

what does it mean when people ask if a SAS drive is dualport? whats the difference

Alot of enterprise SAS drives are dual port for redundancy and are connected to 2 different SAS controllers incase a controller fails. You can also get dual port SATA disks.

Uhh I don't think there are any dual port SATA drives (dual ports isn't part of the sata spec). There are nearline SAS drives, which are basically normal 7200rpm desktop drives with SAS controllers.

But yeah, everything else he said is spot on. Its for redundant controllers/cable pathways.

Yep, those are the dual port SATA disks i've used in the past. Pretty sure they were WD disks.

Weird. I've never seen those before. Seems to be only IBM who makes them. Are you sure they aren't just mislabeled SAS nearline drives?
