Yeah, I'm going to try and not use the 24pin adapter if possible, tapping power from the PSU's cable.

I had a quick look at the adapter last night. The normal 24 wires are 18AWG and the power switch cables are 24AWG and simply squeezed into 3pins along with the 18AWG wire.

If you want to just hook it up directly to the PSU's 24pin so you don't need to use the adapter it looks to me like all you need to do is remove the ATX pins from the end of 3 wires and add in the 24AWG from the power switches wires, put the pin back on, and then squeeze it back into the molex.

It looks to be a VERY tight squeeze but obviously it's doable since they did it for the adapter.

ps: Btw when you get the powder coating done you'll need to remove the 2 horizontal bars that the side panels clip on to. I had a quick go at removing mine, I believe you need to drill some rivets through to get them off though so I had no luck.

The two bars each need to have a few rivets removed before they come off, but to get the levers that release the side panels out requires some major disassembly or a little cutting (which is what I did).

The parts are at the powder coater now (Shack Steel Design). The guy I spoke to said it should be done within a week, but they were doing a run of satin black tomorrow, so it might be done then.

Whoa whoa whoa.. You CUT to get the levers off?! That wasn't necessary dude, all you is unscrew and the levers practically fall out, when I had a quick look at mine I just unscrewed em and they pretty much fell out, no cutting at all required!

Sooooooooooo keen to see the photos! I'm hopefully going to get in contact with some powder coaters next week to organize mine. Did you just randomly call up a few places to get quotes and what not?

I had trouble getting the lever on the left side of the case (motherboard tray side) to come out, as it was blocked by the tray. It didn't matter which angle it was on, it wouldn't slip out without some trimming. The other option was to drill all the rivets and remove the top of the chassis.

Looking very nice there, can't wait to see it all assembled in its powder coated goodness...

I see your mounting the rad in the front, have you considered mounting it in the top to leave more room for drives?

I was quoted $80. The bare chassis would have been cheaper, but with the top and bottom bars/handles (which have to be stripped), the extra panels and so on $80 seems reasonable.

I hadn't heard that it was a problem either. I spent about 10 minutes trying to figure a way to coax it out, thinking I must be missing something, then gave up and trimmed a bit.

There will be a 360 on top, to go with the 240 in the front. Definitely overkill, but I'm not running high speed fans, so the extra surface area might come in handy.

I just picked up the pieces that were powder coated.

In a bit of a rush today, so here's a couple of quick shots of the chassis and handles, I'll get some more up tomorrow.
