Yeah, the new iMac line looks good. Was pleasantly surprised by the spec updates and the new prices

The new lineup for iMacs, Mac Mini's and Macbook looks great...

I think it'll be enough to get me to switch over all my computers early next year... :-D (Didn't think i'd ever be saying that...)

- a 27" iMac with the i7 and 8GB Ram for me
- Mac Mini for my wife
- and probably a Macbook (or maybe a 13" macbook pro) for my lappie :-D

Looks awesome, I just wish Apple didn't charge so much for their upgrades

New last night, including some price drops to reflect the stronger $AUD.

Too bad the video cards that you can get with them aren't that great.

you can use it as a 27" Monitor also, which mean you can use it as a PC monitor or a HDTV.

The multi-touch mouse looks interesting to say the very least

Yeah, even the 4850 is going to struggle at that monster screen resolution and I should think that the 9400 won't have much hope at FullHD. Bit of a pain how Apple always does that.

What's the major advantage of i7 over i5? I don't get it.

Apart from being higher base clockspeeds, I believe i7 also does Hyper-threading, so your quad core appears as an 8core.

From what I've read, the difference isn't huge though, 5-10% at most.

I'm tossing up between the i5 and i7 now for a bunch of machines for a company we support, ~$220 odd difference after discount and tax.

if your going to use applications such as Final Cut Pro, or any cpu intensive app that requires multiple cores then i7 is where its at. But without oversimplifying it, if you are going to use less intensive apps that do not require multi core support then the difference is negligible and i5 is what you'll be happy with.
